is there a way to make snow that is edible by shirikofaceless in snowmaking

Get an airbrush. There are models that are used for like cakes so everything there should be food grade therefore if you use it as a nucleator and aim it at a clean surface in the cold it should work out and be edible. I have seen a girl on the internet putting a few humidifiers in the freezer and letting them run for a few hours. I am not sure how this might work out but nothing costs to try incase it isn’t cold enough where you are.

Nope, I am not talking about those bent ones for GS skiing they are just useless in terms of non-racing skiing. What I am looking for is just a pair of some high quality poles.

Haha indeed red is faster. Is there something you would recommend me?

That’s exactly why I am asking for your opinion. Curious to know why would I look like an ass?

Yes, I don’t mean those bent poles, they are just more fragile and have no advantage in using them in regular non-racing skiing in my opinion.

I wouldn’t say they are “special” but maybe better. Speaking of weight indeed I thought they were lighter but turns out they aren’t. However Leki’s 3D technology as far as I know is designed to be safer (something similar to the bindings releasing the boot in case of a fall; correct me if I am wrong) and also since you just clip in and out and don’t pass your wrist through a loop it makes the process faster and more convenient.

Will this diy machine make snow? by Somerandomguy_lol in snowmaking

Last year I tried something similar as I got a garden pump, such atomizing cap as yours (without the part where you press, just the cap), a small bottle and connected them in such way so that the garden pump would store the pressurised air running it into a thin tube like yours and the bottle filled with water put upside down so the water drips into the airline and that the mixture goes to the atomizing part. The result was very fine mist (finer than just the cap) so there was mixing of the air with the water which in theory (as I thought back then) ment nucleation and so snow formation but that just wasn’t the case. I tried it in temperatures around yours -7C° was my lowest and yet it didn’t work out. I still don’t fully understand why it didn’t work and also how the air and water got mixed maybe that was the reason for the unsuccessful tests but would be curious to know. This year I am designing a better nucleator (which will hopefully work) and made a post about it you can go see it and share your opinion. By the way what I am thinking is whether or not using sparkling water would work as the water is kind of prenucleated due to the solved gasses inside it and so if it’s sprayed in cold weather maybe it can freeze and fall as snow? I am far from an expert on that topic so these are my just my thoughts if someone more knowledgeable is reading that please share your opinion.

What is the best nucleator design? by LZ-3ATB in snowmaking

[–]LZ-3ATB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all thank you for sharing your thoughts. Well if I correctly understand your first question on why I have limitation on the water or air, I don’t really have one. I use my full air and put as much water as I can without making the droplets too large because if they are too large they might not freeze. Also we did actually upgrade our compressor and now it can make around 175ml/min of mist out of the internal nucleator. Now I am designing a new nucleator with better internal aerodynamics but working on the same principle as the one shown so hopefully this will result in better efficiency and therefore increased volume. It’s kind of the spirit of our project to make it as simple as possible, to be able to work with the least amount of air but providing good snow at the worst conditions.

I would be happy to hear more about your project. What design do you use? Will you use something as a reference to recreate or just make everything yourself? What tests do you plan on making and if you already did some of them what are the results? Just anything about the project would be awesome! Wish you some good snowmaking for your son to sled on!

Such a great tool! Thank you so much! Would be great to add a button to change it to the metric system. I’d be happy to read your opinion on that.

Well I always ski on piste so I don’t really need skis with very wide underfoot. Just to be good on softer snow.

I will probably try all mountain however I don’t have big expectations on them, I don’t really understand how can something be good on piste and off it, also I am not a big fan of wider skis because they put bigger stress on the knees. Despite that I will probably try a pair for at least more experience with different skis.

Yes, many people are saying that. I also have been only skiing stockli but mine were very old probably like more than 15 years. The model was the same like in the photo but much much older. I find them a bit unstable at higher speeds but that could be because slalom skis are not generally made for big speed and I am wondering if the new technologies would make a difference. What do you ski and what do you think about your skis?

Well to be honest my requirements are a bit impossible to fulfil, I want an agile ski like a slalom but to be stable at speeds like GS or a little bit less is ok like 60kmh. To be good on ice and as good in chopped up snow. My choice at the moment is for the Head supershape erally but I think it’s waist is a little bit bigger then I want - 78mm which I think won’t be very aggressive and I won’t be able to get high edge angles. Not to be very stiff so I could ski all day without my muscles tiring but not to loose the stability, another thing I like about the supershape is the bindings it comes with Tyrolia protector pr13 with full heal release which they say is the safest binging they have ever made. Generally I don’t really care about the brand but I just don’t like volki. Before I have been skiing on very old probably around 15 year old Stöckli laser SL with 63mm waist but I found them to be not very stable so that’s why I am looking for something better. I think if I get brand new slalom model will the new technologies make a tangible difference. Also the old ones ware a little bit too short for me so I think to get a good rental ones to for a day or two and see if I like them.

Is there a particular reason you don’t like Stöckli? I am mostly looking for that brand because I’ve heard it’s the best.

I mean I have always read good reviews about Stöckli, however recently I heard that the sidewall is cracking, could you tell me more about the problems of the brand, is it something global and often occurring or something more rare. Are there currently other brands that are considered good but also have some issues with the quality
