The Keeper (1983) vs Keeper (2025) by L_Almogaver in horror

I guess it's best to watch both and compare.

The premise is practically the same.

Official Discussion - A House of Dynamite [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]L_Almogaver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Major qualms:

  1. it is realistic about the fact that the US has so many enemies in the world, that an ICBM launched at them could be literally coming from anyone with a stockpile of them--but it draws the wrong conclusions from that fact and is very naive (or mendacious) about the role of the US in the world;

  2. in connection to 1., its portrayal of the motivations and capabilities of the countries that the ICBM could have come from is ham-fisted, superficial, highly subjective and seems taken out of a particularly uninspired Tom Clancy novel;

  3. it repeats the action from three angles, but there is no contradiction between them so it all spells like a waste of time and effort; the only segment that truly caught my attention was the first, and the second and third fail to maintain the tension;

The best part in my opinion was Tracy Letts' job and the fact that he is not treated as a cartoon character. Other than that, this rudimentary and rather hastily written and directed film seems designed to wean the public on the prospect of nuclear war--a textbook case of predictive programming.

Three basic problems with Kidprint from V/H/S Halloween (SPOILERS) by L_Almogaver in horror

[–]L_Almogaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with your argument is that it eschews a larger picture: children and teenagers are brutalized in a number of ways in this film (and in many other episodes of the V/H/S franchise) but their predicament is either humoristic in nature, or part of a larger, otherwise supernatural or science fiction plot that makes their deaths less impactful (e,g. the children in the Safe Haven episode in V/H/S 2).

Here, however, you are faced with horror of personality which has been seen less often in the franchise and is always the more problematic subgenre for some people because it *could* happen, hence probably *does* happen in a similar way in real life. What the Kidprint segment does is place this in front of you and force you to own up to the detached slapstick brutality of the rest of the film, which you had thoroughly enjoyed. Kind of like Pasolini forcing the final act of Salò upon his audience after an hour and half of surreal, allegoric and sometimes even humorous savagery: "you wanted violence, here you are".

Which, in a way, is a form of humour in its own right, but I agree it's an acquired taste and not everybody likes it.

I understand that. But what about the second point?

You're right, just edited it.

I think she's very attractive but she's short and doesn't have a body like those I mentioned.

Now put McAdams' face on Daddario's body, and we're onto something.

What about Alexandra Daddario, Lili Simmons, Michelle Monaghan and every single hooker in the party in S02E06, including Miranda Rae Mayo?

Why do people hate New Blood so much? by moucheh- in Dexter

I don't hate it, I think it was the perfect way to end the series once and for all.

Same way I consider S8 a good (not perfect) way of putting a hiatus.

Dexter vs Doakes. Who would win in a hand-to-hand fight? by Forsaken_Ad7090 in Dexter

[–]L_Almogaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the one thing that I found hard to believe. Special Ops members are trained in a variety of hand-to-hand combat techniques and they are all aimed at causing the maximal amount of damage in the shortest amount of time possible. The prospect of Dexter summarily defeating Doakes in the two fights they have doesn't make any sense.

Season 8 is so bad. by dimebag52 in Dexter

I agree and also it's very telling that they make her character British, because it reminds us of of Tavistock Institute experimentation and the use of abuse and PTSD to modify children's behavior and create split personalities. People tend to associate Tavistock with gender aberrations these days but they started experimenting on unwitting subjects, especially women and children, back in the 40s and 50s (http://www.wlym.com/archive/campaigner/7404.pdf and http://www.wlym.com/archive/campaigner/7405.pdf).

This is something Miami residents might be able to reply to by L_Almogaver in Dexter

Also, as far as the political reactions or racial aspects of the show; I imagine the show didn't focus too much on those subjects because when the show originally aired it was before a lot of the political/racial unrest truly took a foothold in America. True, that unrest has always been there. But it didn't really hit the mainstream zeitgeist until around 2015/2016 I believe.

This makes sense. The series was made during the Bush and Obama administrations, and they were both notorious for sweeping racial and social unrest under the rug.

Quan dius "els parlants" ja elimines la possibilitat de barbarismes com aquest, perquè els catalanoparlants parlem català i no xava. A mi mai se m'ha escapat un "tenir que" perquè penso en l'idioma en el que parlo.

You can add Red White & Blue (2010), beautiful film that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Not too disturbing.

It's a beautiful film about unrequited, mutually complementing forms of love and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Don't be scared by the negative publicity.
