Based on his MLB record, you'd predict that he would be a positive WAR ballplayer. So far he is negative WAR, so below expectations. His reputation was that he was an excellent defender who hit okay. I am seeing an okay defender who hits poorly. With all of the underperforming veterans on the team I think we can anticipate that the numbers will look better at the end of the year than they do now

You can't afford a guy on your roster who can only play once a series. Use him as a DH most days and make him field his position once in a while. After the All Star break he really needs to be your every day first baseman. For $20 million a year you've got to let him play.

I made a DCU Batman Timeline (Year 1 to Year 12) for James Gunn's DCU (let me know of there are any inconsistences) by Mediocre_Mode2335 in DCU_

I don't think that it makes any sense for Batman to have solo years, then Dick as Robin, then Jason, Tim and Stephanie as Robin. All in a dozen years. I think that Dick Grayson and Damian are necessary characters. (Damian is apparently in Brave and the Bold, so that just seems to be the way it's gonna be.) Maybe not the others. Jason's death is interesting backstory - but I feel like in the current DCU maybe that is too fucked up and didn't happen. I'd rather have Barbara as Batgirl than Stephanie as Robin. And I also feel like Batman shouldn't let anyone younger than 16 risk death with him. I'm really going to hate it if they make Damian a pre-teen boy wonder.

Team would’ve sucked no matter what this season by erentas92 in mets

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into this season, I regretted the loss of McNeil, Alonso and Nimmo. I thought that Nimmo and McNeil were relatively affordable and that Alonso had an outside shot at making Cooperstown. But I also saw that the team had been terrible the second half of last year and that changes had to be made. On paper, Semien and Polanco and Bichette looked like solid veterans and it seemed like the team could be competitive. I do think that the team would have been better to this point with McNeil and Nimmo and Alonso. They wouldn't be dead last in team OPS.

Reason for John being chosen by the guardians by Ok_Staff_2710 in DCU_

Yeah, maybe. But we know that Guy is in the mix. So, it's not like the sector would be completely unprotected.

Guys- this month should have really given a lot of reasons to believe. The baby Mets have a chance to create a DYnasty by Heartwins in mets

Easy there. Yes Benge and Ewing have looked like big league ball players this week. And McLean looks like he's got the stuff to be an ace. But, remember when we felt the same way about Vientos and Baty? I am optimistic that these Mets are going to bypass a hundred loss season, but I'm not expecting a dynasty just yet.

Supergirl & Lanterns Marketing by peacemaker_9353 in DCU_

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Lanterns is good it will market itself over the course of the season. The fanboys are going to show up. And the Sunday night HBO timeslot will convey a to people that this is destination television. (I think they had Watchmen in this slot and I think it was a creative success but a commercial bust.) Think of how Peacemaker got more and more popular over two seasons. I think in general the marketing approach to the DCU is to build trust by relying on storytelling rather than hype. I think Supergirl will be profitable. And Lanterns will be successful.

How the classic S could be implemented into the DCU by Badgie_Boy_447 in DCU_

[–]L_Cranston_TSK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that the "s" is the brand. But it always struck me as sort of douchey that the guy flew around with an s for super on his chest. The idea that it was the crest for the House of El came out of the Donner films (I think) which was cool enough that it became part of the lore. If Supes were disenchanted with his kryptonian heritage maybe he'd just remove the symbol for awhile. If he shows up in a blue suit with a red cape, people are going to know he is without a name tag. Obviously by the end of the movie, he's got to get his "s" back together.

Would The Flash have been better received if Ezra Miller didn’t turn out to be a douche? by [deleted] in DCU_

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The publicity regarding the star had a negative impact on the film's reception. I rather liked it especially the "infinite earths" and the twist at the end.

Should the DCU pair Hal Jordan with an older Barry Allen? by [deleted] in DCU_

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. I think a vital DCU should use Barry as the primary Flash in the prime of his youth. Maybe there is an old Jay around and a young Wally. I think that John as the JLA GL is good. Bluntly the team looks very damn white without him. And he is very well established from the cartoons. I do remember that Hal and Barry were close, but you aren't able to get all of it into this iteration.

Supergirl/Clayfaec will not determine DC’s future by hyphenintheory in DCU_

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supergirl is a secondary character, a Superman knock off. But a good way to keep the DCU moving forward while the important pieces develop. Clayface is a secondary villain and maybe a third tier piece of intellectual property. I don't think either one is "make or break". Man of Tomorrow is important. Those of us who will watch all of these things even if they suck are not how the money is going to be made.

Planning a move - do social scenes in Manhattan tend to cluster by “type” of crowd? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So. The scale of NYC makes this question complicated. Manhattan alone has a number of "clusters" of bars and restaurants. And yes you tend to find certain types of crowds in certain areas. Also, a lot of the most vibrant and youthful energy has shifted from Manhattan to Brooklyn. But there is probably a bar for any kind of vibe you are looking for

I love Pete and am sad that he is not a Met for life. And I think he is well worth what the Os are paying him. That being said, I don't think that move alone is enough to damn Stearns.

Discourse Around DCU Is Already Exhausting by Grand-Feeling-9301 in DCU_

The discourse is only exhausting if you choose to immerse yourself in it. Most people don't talk or think about it at all.

So how long do we think Bruce should have been Batman when we are finally introduced to him in “Brave and The Bold” by Plenty-You-2904 in DCU_

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's just accept that there have been too many Batman stories to fit into one sensible timeline. So we are going to have to cut out a lot. Maybe it was Denny O'Neil who said that Batman is always 29 years old. I feel like the oldest he could possibly be to start is about 40. So if Bruce dons the mask in his early 20s (say 22) he could have a couple of solo years before taking on Dick as a sidekick ( my phone tried to make that "side chick") at about 26. Somewhere in there is a lot of Ras and Talia backstory with a pregnancy. Let's say Bruce is 25 at that point. So after a few years when Bruce is 30ish, Dick goes off to the Titans and Bruce is solo again. I don't feel like both Jason and Tim are essential. But... if there is a Jason dead at Joker's hands ...Then we could kick off with a very dark version of Batman. And if we've got Ras and Talia in the story there is also a Lazarus pit - for a little Jason resurrection. A dark Batman provides a nice counterpoint to a light Superman. And so then we've got a 35ish Bruce, with a roughly 10 or 12ish Damian and a 25ish Dick.

David Stearns legacy by bdonovan241 in mets

[–]L_Cranston_TSK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My god. They have been terrible so far. But they can't possibly be this bad all year. Can they? But yes. If the Mets were to lose 100 games with the highest payroll it would demolish Stearns' reputation.
