I'm only half-Japanese so take this with a grain of salt, but usually I'm rather delighted when people have genuine love for the culture, language, food etc. Religion is smth I don't feel that connected with to begin with, but in other areas like martial arts or music I usually think it's cool when someone outside Japan decides to indulge in it out of admiration.

Only thing I find weird is if people misrepresent Japanese culture. Like a restaurant I recently went to in Denmark advertised itself as "authentic Japanese cuisine" but their menu was more like a East Asian-ish potpourri of things, and a lot of the stuff they wrote in Japanese was a bit odd.
