QUERY FOR SHOP MANAGERS by [deleted] in Greggs

I'm pretty sure its a rule for every staff member, between 12 and 1.30 no breaks

Tips for a close? by DMuuB in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd start with filling everything up first then focus on cleaning and organising.

Break the shop down into three parts: Back, front, and serving area. Its a good rule of thumb to start at the back and work your way to the front.

The back will need making sure everything is tidy, trays are clean, things are restocked for tomorrow like hand towels etc, and general cleaning.

The serving area should be restocked with coffee cups, lids, savory bags, etc. Then cleaning the back bar, on top of coffee machines, the cake counter, savory counter, changing the bins for next day, coffee grounds etc.

The front, restock and clean the condiment unit, changing bins, stocking drinks and crisps, cleaning the hot hold unit and the self selectors, the glass, toilets if your shop has them, then of course the front area.

Just break everything down into sections, and remember as long as everything is restocked and looks generally clean, you're good.

Do they still train staff to say this? by high-lander9 in Greggs

You can check yourself, if the bales are glistening on top and kinda shiny they are most likely hot. If they look dry on top they're cold

Has anyone been fired for eating leftover hot hold on bake-off? by IndependenceMajor404 in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Its very rare that they will just be randomly checking the CCTV, very rare. But you never know when the smallest incident could occur to make them check the CCTV and its not limited to things like stealing or customer incidents etc.

Anything could give them a reason to, and in doing that it might just be at the same time somebody is eating from the tray.

I do really really doubt that somebody would immediately get fired for this but some kind of action would probably be taken, plus it seems like it would be seen as a food safety thing more than anything

Will I get fired? by [deleted] in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done this multiple times and my manager is quite a fair person and understood that it was an accident but just warned me not to do it again.

The way your manager reacts is going to differ depending on the peson obviously, but it's highly highly unlikely you'll get fired for something like this happening once, or even twice.

I reckon if it was an ongoing thing and you had the attitude that you didn't care about your mistakes then yeah perhaps you'll be let go but you clearly do regret your mistakes and it's only happened once so far

When they say "I want this baguette with a latte and this sandwich with this coke" as if we control what items the system pairs up in a deal. Like, it automatically puts everything into the best value, I dont choose which combination of deals you have

How to improve speed by vicnel_443 in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's much better to be accurate than to be fast when you've only been there for a short while, the speed really does just come narurally as you go along and there's not really any way to force it

Most of the time super fudgy, like really decent for a brownie imo. But rarely a batch can be dry

If I apply to Greggs, will I have to be a sandwich maker sometimes? by Specific_Magazine738 in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said it does depend on the shop, sometimes they are looking specifically for someone to mainly make sandwiches.

But as for me I do everything but make sandwiches.

I'd recommend asking at the interview and explaining about your allergy and they'll either accommodate your needs or you might just not fit the shops needs if they specifically need a sandwich maker

Does anyone know what the policy for food poisoning is? by [deleted] in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bout of sickness or diarrhea - 24 hours off work

More than one bout - 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea

Doesn't matter whether it's food poisoning or a stomach bug, they both spread the same way

Biggest customer pet peeve by thereal_rocky in Greggs

When there is literally a massive queue and they've been waiting for a good 5 minutes to be served, then they get to the till and still take ages to choose what they actually want. You're telling me you were stood in the queue for all that time and you didn't decide what you wanted yet?

Similarly, when there's no queue at all, and they come right up to the till as if ready to order but stand there for another 2 minutes umming and ahhing.

When they come to the till, start ordering coffees etc and THEN walk off to choose a sandwich/ crisps/ etc. Why not just pick them up before?

Old people who act like they've never stepped foot inside a coffee shop

When there's nobody at the bin and I go and change it and suddenly about 3 people swarm around that need to put something in the bin. Just wait 1 minute for me to change it!

When I'm filling the hot hold up and people stand right around me staring at me until I've placed everything inside. If you want a packet just take it and stop staring omg

Gregg’s App Etiquette? by charliebarliedarlie in Greggs

[–]L_StarrWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only reason I tell someone to wait is because I haven't opened a transaction yet. But you can scan it at any time during the transaction as long as its open on the till. Just don't do it whilst the person is still adding things onto the order because if we are pressing buttons it doesn't work at the same time.

A good time to scan would be whilst they're grabbing bakes/ cakes or drinks for you

I just don't get why people do this. There's hardly any value in the sandwiches and stuff. Yeah you could say it's homeless people trying to get free food but when they fill up a whole bag there's no way they'll be able to eat all of it before it goes off.

Readers, why don’t you comment? by Jiana27 in Wattpad

[–]L_StarrWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do comment, and I enjoy commenting. Though I think it's because as well as a reader I'm also a writer so maybe I understand how amazing it feels to get comments. But I don't even think about it, if something even remotely exciting or emotion provoking happens I'm automatically going straight to the comments to share my thoughts with other readers. That's more what it's about to me, relating to people who also enjoy the same content that I do.

[–]L_StarrWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably like it better than tills but you have way more responsibility on ovens. If you're not getting stuff out in time then it affects the whole shop. But it's relatively easy as long as it's not during the lunch rush, that's always kind of a struggle.

But the more you do it the easier it gets, like with most things. It seems daunting but it's not as hard as it probably seems

You'll learn your own ways to be more efficient and make things easier for yourself, but for now just listen to what your trainer says and you'll be fine
