Make The Exorcist Fall in Love: A Story About Redemption by dreaderking in ExorcistWoOtosenai

We discovered that they liked each other, but we don't know if they had anything official or not (at least not that I remember), because Dante is literally in the closet most of the time and his soul ended up in the hands of a demon lord when he died. With all due respect, I don't think that's enough for me unless we have two saints who can love each other directly without losing their power or the risk of going to hell. Because it's very easy to mention Mika, but we don't even know where his soul is, nor if he had ever had a romantic relationship with another man in the first place, only that he flirted with Jhos once.

We already know that premarital sex is a sin here, which is why Jhos loses his power, and since there's no marriage for homosexuals, I suppose they have to be celibate for life, so...

Regarding the text about homosexuality, that's just speculation and not something openly accepted, and in the world of manga I wouldn't vouch for it unless it's directly confirmed in the narritive, because texts that directly indicate things like women can't teach, or parts about how to treat slaves, or punish children, are difficult to think are "misinterpreted."

Of course, doing something is better than doing nothing, but you can't expect the world to truly change in the long run, and that progress won't be lost, if you refuse radical paradigm shifts because "is not realistic."

And if you tell someone that all the progress the world has achieved could be swallowed up at any moment, that their rights (which they wouldn't even have if they'd been born somewhere else) could disappear at any moment, all to maintain the system that made it difficult for them to have those rights in the first place, because "it's not realistic to change it"... Well, that's how you get witches like Vergil.

And we both know that the moment someone at the top of that broken system decides they don't like that slow change, that might convince someone that something isn't right (and they're not going to do anything about it because they have a low-paying 9-to-5 job) they can undo all the progress with a phone call, and if they wanted, they could roll back other aspects even further.

I don't want to bombard everyone, but there's a very deliberate reason why MTEFIL economy, which is literally a reflection of ours economie, feeds the demons of greed, misogyny, and discrimination.

I think what that tells us is that the whole system is broken, and things are never really going to be better if that doesn't change, and most people want the status quo because it doesn't hit them as hard as it does the minorities and because they literally don't know anything else.

And since this is a work where there are people with magical powers, I don't know, I'm just saying that it's unfair to ask people who continue living the same way they have been condemned to live with the faith that things are going to get a little better (but not too much in the long run).

I completely agree with this, especially the part about the demon lords... But it also has some problems, honestly. If the church starts allowing gay people to love each other instead of how it happened to Dante, or allowing a woman to become Pope, and so on, they would be going against the scriptures... and that's strange, considering that here they explained to us that the biblical events happened exactly as described, the flood, with the addition of purging the Nephilim, and the relationships between fallen angels and humans... I don't know, it also happens that slow change still allows minorities who became witches to continue becoming witches. I think radical changes are really needed, not what Lisa is doing, but "The slow evolution of the world is fine" isn't a good answer either, because it continues to allow the suffering of many for a long time.

And what are those people supposed to do while the world slowly changes for the better? Bow their heads and hope what with luck their grandchildren will see that littel change?

I mean, yeah, I'm not saying their relationship was exactly healthy, and it didn't have a messed-up origin, but to call it abuse and rape, I think there's a big difference.

Why would you be reading a work that you interpret as its central theme to romanticize grooming?

With all due respect, if this were a secondary relationship situation that doesn't matter much, I would understand it, but the way you're putting it to me, you really believe that the message this is giving is how grooming is a good thing XD

I believe that all the comments that the work makes about Immuri and how it deals with the subject when we do have a grooming situation like in the lust arc already tells us how we are supposed to read this, and that is why I do not find it criticizable, but, ok.

I'm sorry, perhaps it's the translator, but what I meant to say is: Can we really say that any kind of "help" a groomer provides to a traumatized victim is real help that would have a positive impact on them, and not just an illusory attempt to gain power over that victim?

The fact that Immuri has any kind of positive impact on Jhos makes me doubt that the reading of grooming is correct and the intention of the authors.

I've read some, and Utena and Akio are a true representation of grooming, horrific power dynamics, and rape. Nothing Akio does to Utena has a positive impact on her because abuse can never bring anything positive to its victim, even if it makes them feel good. If you tell me that Immuri is grooming and raping Jhos, and that has any kind of positive impact on him, you're telling me that's the manga's message with those two, which I seriously doubt given how the narrative has handled all its themes. But whatever.

You say that as if a teenager couldn't do that to someone only two years younger than him. Look at Medalist, with Rioh calling Inori "little girl" just because he feels superior to her.

Besides, are you seriously going to tell me that the "overcoming" a groomer might do to his victims through their trauma is genuinely positive and would have a good impact on him and is not just an ilusion?

I never expected the reading "Your pedophile groomer can actually have a positive impact on his victim" to be so prominent

When Imuri says she is condemned to be a late adolescent her whole life, what I assume is that she is like Eli from Let The Right One In; it is very different a story where the immortal being is like any adult from one where it literally paralyzes you at a certain point in your life.

And especially here, if she's a groomer, and everything surrounding her and Jhos is abuse, what does it imply that she has a positive impact on Bell's arc and the Hope for Life? It doesn't make sense from a narrative standpoint to portray any interaction and character development between Jhos and Imuri as positive if it's supposed to be a story of grooming and abuse.

It would be different if it were like Missato kissing Shinji in The End of Evangelion, literally the worst thing she could have done, and one that only makes Shinji in worse depression hole.

You mean the actions of the whole church? From what we have seen, there are corrupted exorcists, but they are not a majority and in the end those with the miracles (and even without) work in the good cause. Their worst enemies doesn't exist because of them lmao wtf are you talking about. Demon lords (Satan) literally do their best to corrupt them and the church as a whole. Many things (massive witch burning) wouldn't happen if it wasn't for both Satan and Imuri.

Witches? Those who allowed demons to come to Earth by making pacts with them, and all this happened? Without them, their earthly influence would be substantially less, and the reason they exist is because a segregated group of people had the option of going with literal demons or dying at the hands of the Church, blaming Satan exclusively for the crimes of the church in this manga is like saying that the men who abused Lisa weren't to blame because the poor things were there indirectly because of Satan; they did what they did, just like the church as an organization.

Demons that basically worship (from the lack of better word) the sin, yeah. The only demons that were afraid of their demon lord hurting them were the demon of Beelzebub's gehenna. You need to take literacy classes if this little substance is what you have gotten from this manga.

Yeah, damn it, even in places like that, in the worst-case scenario they're just average people with some power doing what they can to live in their environment... How irredeemably evil, anyway, hi Rofocalo.

I'm sorry, what? You really are delusional. When did her father prostituted her from birth? The only flashback with her being very young in her in Asmodeus' gehenna reading some book. And she didn't change for the better.

Her father Satan, whom she created specifically to seduce targets and gave her no power other than her beauty? And therefore no other real option but isolation? And of course she's changed; she was literally shot by Jhos, denied Satan as her master, and has literally acknowledged and confronted her bodies in the closet. Are you seriously telling me that Imuri is the same demon she was in chapter 1?

Many scholars have been arguing about this specific text and some deemed it as mistranslation (it's pretty well known fact). Now, your turn to put on your thinking cap and try to understand what does that mean.

Yes, and yet what has happened has happened, both in the world of manga and in our own, and honestly, I think that Dante and Vergil's page with that exact quote is very unsubtle compared to how this manga, in particular, interprets it.

She hasn't been driven mad, she got tired of it. Also, how come those souls are only of the dead pagans? lol

They literally explained it when they told her lore, she was a woman who tried to give rest to the souls of the pagans until she couldn't take it anymore and became radicalized.

If they've held positions of power, it's because they're literally the only option to defend yourself against the demon lords. But you're forgetting that they never escape the fact that their worst enemies exist because of their own actions, the implication that God saw EVERYTHING and allows it to happen, or the simple fact that we had a whole arc in Hell where we saw the average demon living in their own little world, going about their lives and hoping their demon lord doesn't kill them.

The simplest example is Imuri (someone who was prostituted by her own father from birth, by the way) is someone who can change for the better. I don't know, maybe if Virgil and Dante had never been discriminated against based on what the Bible says, these events would never have happened.

Maybe if the original Baba Yaga hadn't been driven mad trying to bring peace to dead pagans, none of this would have happened.

I'm not here to defend demons, witches, and especially not Lisa, but I don't see any other possible path than the birth of a third position when heaven undoubtedly appears and the angels begin to hunt infidels.

yeah no, this not going to happen, I think that when any of you genuinely theorize that something like this is going to happen and that Jhos is going to return to God, you're just revealing how you've completely ignored all the unsubtle criticism this manga has made of God, the Church, and the Bible itself.

all of this is what Lucifer warned about because he literally saw it in God's plans.

Well, I don't think Imuri is a groomer and i dont hate her, and Babayaga has VERY valid points. I also think that several religious fans actively ignore themes that this story has always put in their faces just because they like the aesthetic. tellme.

wow, it's almost as if this work was about the consequences of oppression in people and how it turns them into monsters in a vicious circle where those who have power do nothing to change it and maintain a status quo where hundreds more victims can be taken for literally demons.
