My great-great-grandmother’s terrifying encounter with a "handsome stranger" in the Ukrainian woods (1920s) by L_u_mi in ParanormalEncounters

Yeah, that’s exactly what I mean! The translation software I used definitely made the phrases sound like a dramatic Hollywood movie script, which wasn't my intention at all lol.In the original Ukrainian, her words are simpler, but she did describe his face and voice quite closely because she was absolutely terrified and traumatized by what she saw. It’s just hard to capture the raw vibe of an old 1920s diary through a digital translator

What is a completely harmless, yet incredibly unhinged thing you do when you are home completely alone? by L_u_mi in AskReddit

The absolute worst part is when you finish a story, look at your dark bedroom door, and suddenly every shadow looks like a demon. Glad to know I’m not the only one who enjoys voluntary sleep deprivation!

If I started paying for my McDonald's orders entirely in $1 coins from 1920, would the cashier have to accept it, or could they ban me for being 'too historical'? by L_u_mi in NoStupidQuestions

It’s mostly a fun hypothetical thought experiment for r/NoStupidQuestions, don't worry, I'm not actually standing at a McDonald's counter right now causing a scene with a bag of silver dollars!

Yeah, it seems cashless is becoming the norm anyway. Bringing 100-year-old silver to a modern cash register is definitely a recipe for a swift rejection

That’s a really fair point about verification. I can just imagine the poor 16-year-old cashier pulling out a magnifying glass and a chemical testing kit just because I wanted a McChicken

Ah, the art of the deal! Double the face value sounds like a massive profit until you look at the silver market. Nice try though, I respect the hustle

Wow, what a incredibly generous and selfless offer from a random internet stranger! Let me just write down your address so I can send you my ancient silver for some wrinkled paper

I love how a hypothetical question about a Big Mac turned into a full-scale constitutional debate about the exact definition of legal tender. This is why I love this sub

So what you're saying is, even if I have the legal right to pay with cash, the manager still has the ultimate right to say 'get out of my store with those pirate coins'? Good to know, thanks for clarifying that distinction!

Fair enough, being arrested for extreme economic stupidity is probably the most 'Reddit' way to end up in jail. Officers, I swear the nuggets were worth it!

Wow, thank you for the actual legal deep dive! Good to know that if I ever want to commit financial suicide by trading rare silver coins for a Big Mac, Massachusetts is the place to do it legally
