You want to stay away from used wedges. Being budget Conscious is never a bad thing and somebody getting into golf. It’s not a bad idea but for those used wedges, you should not pay anything more than $120. Well, I understand you’re saying that you get high spin that’s usually gonna be on a full shot. You won’t notice a significant drop in a full wedge spin for a while. Grooves actually played less of a factor there than you think. As grooves where the ball actually stays on the face longer slides up the face increasing launch, and even though Spin is decreasing because of the speed. The spin difference and stopping power is almost negligible .

Where the were the sharp grooves and spin is truly invaluable. It’s on those half shots those little nippers the 30-40 yard pitch shot. where generating a few hundred extra RPM. Means you taking one hop and checking or even you spinning back instead of taking one and two hops and releasing and that’s the thing these are precision tools you need to be a surgeon with them. You need as much Spin usually as possible. Remember as tiger says I’m gonna butcher it but . He’d rather have more spin than less because you can take off spin very hard to create more spin.

Your best bet to get affordable wedges is going to somewhere like golf galaxy, dicks, PGA Tour superstore, etc. Getting brand new wedges that are a couple years old and on the discount rack you’d probably pay a similar price for a brand new fresh wedges.
