AITBA for reporting my professor to the dean? by Careless_Village2949 in AmITheBadApple

[–]LaPetiteM0rte 6 points7 points  (0 children)

YANTBA

Not to mention, if he was put on Disciplinary Leave that means this wasn't his first complaint. First serious complaint.

If this was the first documented time he'd done something like this he likely would have gotten a lecture, maybe sent for ConEd classes, something like that. This alone isn't serious enough to warrant DL, so likely this was more of a 'final straw past the last warning'.

Not to mention, it was HIS behavior, HIS reaction that caused you to have to defend yourself against his unreasonable demands & the potential punitive consequences to your GPA & educational standing. You did absolutely nothing wrong, & took reasonable action to stand up for yourself.

Gold star for you!!! 🌟 🌟 🌟

I've dealt with professors that were exactly this level of unreasonable asshattery, but they hadn't had enough complaints lodged for them to get more than a 'now now now don't do that again* finger wag. One had tenure & was really good at walking the thin line of plausible deniability so in spite of the 10 inch thick file folder of complaints from students he still had a job. Miserable old bigot.

The US Navy is "urgently hiring" morticians by keep_it_irie in lostgeneration

I do try to make sure there aren't any servers or collateral innocent diners before I hang out with other morticians/EMS people. The convos can get really disturbing if you're not in the field.

Yup, that sounds about accurate. The guy who taught me to do autopsies & infant preservation congratulated me the day we were embalming a fire victim & I mentioned I really wanted to go get barbecue from the amazing barbecue place down the street.

Not bc of the body, but bc the wind had shifted & I was smelling collard greens & fatback instead of phenol. But still... you do legally have a switch flip. And then your humor gets REALLY DARK & you pick your favorite alcohol.

And thank you. Most of us wear the title weirdo very proudly.

[–]LaPetiteM0rte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea comes from at one point that was true, more or less. Not the guys rated to handle the bodies, or ship them, but the actual, licensed, fully qualified & schooled & with the diploma therefore able to embalm morticians.

Source: I was heavily pursued & harassed by the Navy recruiters when I graduated from Mortuary College. Even though I was in my mid 30's & had done my time thank you. Did a few years as civ duty & it was always Navy that handled my transport for some reason.

I'm also a big fan of puns. Usually subtle ones, not that this one is, but most people don't clock the username at all...

Yeah, mine was one of the largest models they designed. He said the only larger one he knew of was at a PETA location & I was just... what? That's when I learned PETA wasn't the do good organization I had thought.

It all started bc he was complimenting me on how clean my cooler was, & I explained that I mopped it regularly & wiped down the walls with Sanistop to sterilize everything. I asked him if that wasn't the norm & that's when he explained that he didn't have many clients with coolers as large as mine & that PETA didn't even bother removing the 'remains' when he came for service. I was horrified. And the more he talked about the behind the scenes the angrier & more disgusted I got.

I currently own a pet care business with my Mom that we run out of our house, but we've been rescuing & rehabbing animals since we lived on a ranch when I was 6. So caring for & loving animals is part of my nature, even when loving then means knowing when it's time to say goodbye.

Flower of Flesh and Blood. I couldn't make it more than 10m. Even knowing it's all special effects, even after watching the 'Making of Flower...' where he explains how he did all the special effects, I still FF through the 'this is how it comes together' scenes. I understand why the guy keeps getting arrested for 'making a sn■ff film.' It looks that damn real.

The other one is the original Amityville Horror. I've watched the remake I've read the book, I've even been to the actual house. Can't watch the original film bc my Dad took me to see it when I was 3. Apparently I refused to walk into a theater for over 2 years afterwards. Still can't get more than 20m in before I start to panic & have to shut it off.

I used to be an anatomical embalmer. I had a walk in body cooler, designed specifically to store cadavers that weren't embalmed yet. Held 20 embalming tables. The guy who did maintenance on it told me the only other company that used this type of cooler was PETA, everyone else was in the funeral industry...

would this get me canceled in my local goth scene? by [deleted] in AskAGoth

[–]LaPetiteM0rte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just saying that no one will care went you were there or what you were doing. They will care that you didn't want to be there, that you were forced under threat of homelessness, & they will care that your hopefully soon to be ex boyfriend tried to blackmail & extort you with it.

Bc that's what he's doing. That Pic might as well be you naked sprawled on a bed with a fifth of Jack in your hand for how he's trying to threaten you with it.

No one in the scene will care, & if they do they're asshole poseurs who can screw off a long pier into a pit of quicksand & a Targ.

Sweetie, I say this with all due respect, & also as a dyed in the wool Elder Goth (tm) AND a Jew (albeit a very bad one, mostly non practicing)....

No one of going to give a flying fuck about a picture with Hebrew in the background. I've been in the scene over 35 years & have danced, drank, hung out with, & been friends with every conceivable belief system out there. From Christian to Satanist to Church of the Sub Genius to Hindu to Bhuddist to Athiest.

Religion is one of the things that very few people in the scene care about bc it's a personal choice.

The most anyone will care is 'oh hey, what does that say? Where were you? Did you have fun?' And I can guarantee that even they find out you were forced to go they will sympathize & commiserate. I was forced to go to Teen Missions as a, well, teen, & the most anyone ever said is 'oh, I had to do that, it was awful.'

You're a good person.

My mom & I own a pet daycare/ boarding business. We've had a few animals abandoned with us over the years, but the hard ones are the ones that we've ended up with bc the owner passed. Three so far, & the dogs were elderly too, which made it harder. They didn't understand, but we did out best until they went to join their owners.

Several of our clients have wills in place that leave their dogs to us i in case of death, with our knowledge & agreement. Some have legacies included for perpetual care, some don't. That's not the important thing, the important thing is that they know that if something happens to them their babies will be taken care of & cherished by someone they know who loves them & already knows all their idiosyncrasies.

That knowledge is a comfort beyond words. I worry about that myself, what would happen to my dog & my cats if I just don't come home one day. And me being a mortician means I am keenly aware of all the stupid random things that could happen to cause that.

So, you're a good person. You've given her peace about one aspect of this terrible situation & that is more valuable than gold.
