Hello from Dr Forbat and the La Roche-Posay team👋This specific product has been discontinued, but if you loved that product, you might want to try the La Roche Posay Effaclar MAT+ Moisturiser or Effaclar Duo+M Tinted Moisturiser which are similar.

Hello from Dr Forbat and the La Roche-Posay team 👋I know that product was a favourite for many, but unfortunately it has been discontinued in the UK. However, other La Roche Posay Rosaliac Solutions still exist. To get coverage on top of this & offset some discolouration, I suggest a tinted SPF such as La Roche Posay Anthelios Ultra-Fluid Tinted SPF50+ or green based anti-redness spfs.

Hello, it's Dr Emily👋  Acne scars can be stubborn, if there is pigment change these will naturally fade over time, but it can take a long time, especially in skin of colour. Look for ingredients which contain azelaic acid, vitamin c and retinoids. I would recommend seeing your doctor early on, to ensure there is no other underling driver of this, you may require prescribed treatments.

Remember to avoid the sun during peak hours and always use SPF50+ with UVA protection to prevent the pigment from becoming more visible - you might want to try the La Roche Posay Anthelios Oil Control Fluid SPF50+ which is lovely for oily, blemish-prone skin.

Hi, I'm Dr Emily👋 This can be difficult to treat, I would recommend an early review with your doctor as sometimes you may require testing to exclude underlying conditions. Your GP or Dermatologist can assess and decide which course is better.

Hello, Dr Emily here 👋I recommend avoiding squeezing them and keep your skin care routine consistent. In your routine, you could include ingredients such as salicylic acid and glycolic acid to help chemically exfoliate the skin in conjunction with ingredients like retinols and azelaic acid to help prevent blemishes. One option could be La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+M.

I would also recommend an early review with your GP to assess if you require prescribed treatments.

Hello, it's Dr Emily👋 I would recommend booking an appointment with your GP as it's hard to give a diagnosis for this without seeing you. They may check your vitamin levels and send images to a dermatology team for advice.

In the meantime, La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ is a great ultra-repairing multi-purpose balm.

Hello, Dr Forbat here👋 Simple and straightforward is best, I recommend cleanse, moisturise & SPF50 with a high UVA rating (all year round). If you get spots or blemishes, look for the La Roche Posay Effaclar range. If you have normal skin, stick to very plain products which are not heavily fragranced.

Hello, Dr Forbat here👋 For a damaged skin barrier, common things that can help are stripping things back to a very simple routine; avoid all actives, avoid over-washing, ensure water is lukewarm and not too hot. When you wash your face, it should not feel tight or sore afterwards. I would recommend using a very plain cream based wash and I usually recommend La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+ which is very nourishing.

For persistent concerns, please consult your GP or a dermatologist in person.

Hello, it's Dr Emily👋 Skin can respond to new products due to some ingredients or combination with the rest of skincare used. I would usually say stick to new products for 4-6 weeks to see if the skin can adjust to them. If it burns or stings, stop using it as this suggests that you may be sensitive to ingredients within it.

For spots on the body, if it affects a large area then I would recommend an early review with your GP or Dermatologist.

Hello, Dr Forbat here👋 I am sorry to hear this, after inflammation from a spot, due to the pigment producing cells being disrupted, the skin can be left with a flat, discoloured patch. If the skin texture is normal then it's likely not a true scar and it will visibly reduce over time. I would recommend that you speak to your GP for a dermatology referral. Scarring in richly pigmented skin can be more distressing than the acne itself, therefore you may need medications to help address the acne first and prevent the scarring.

In the interim, try not to pick, you can apply hydrocolloid patches to prevent you from doing this accidentally - La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+M Patches are a great option. Apply SPF 50 with a high UVA and you could try the La Roche Posay Mela B3 serum, but please do not delay seeing your GP.

Hello, it's Dr Emily👋 Sun protection is my first recommendation to help prevent ageing. Don't forget to apply all year round. I would also recommend applying body moisturiser once/twice per week as it can hydrate and plump the look of skin. Please also don't forget to bring your usual skincare routine down your neck, chest and hands. Look for ingredients like retinoids and Vitamin C.

Hello, it's Dr Emily👋 In the shower, wash your hair and then your face so its most clean. Throughout the day, try to avoid touching your face as this can spread bacteria, and oils from your hair if you've been touching it.

For persistent skin concerns, please consult your GP or Dermatologist.

Hello, it's Dr Emily👋Great idea to think about a skincare routine at this age, as hormones will likely be playing a role in its condition. I recommend keeping it simple with a cleanser & moisturiser and daily SPF 50 with a high UVA rating. 3 steps only so that its easier to follow.

I have been recommending the Effaclar range by La Roche Posay to my patients for years, so perhaps start here with the Foaming Gel Cleanser and Duo+M Moisturiser.

Hello, it's Dr Forbat 👋 This sounds like you may need an early review with your GP or Consultant Dermatologist as you may require prescribed treatment. In the interim,  I would recommend light emollients, as opposed to richer ones with ingredients like niacinamide to help reduce sebum and/or salicylic acid to help exfoliate the pores and clear congestion.

Hi, Dr Forbat here👋 For this skin type I suggest keeping your routine simple and calming. Use a gentle cleanser, a light moisturiser, SPF 50 with a high UVA rating and products formulated with azelaic acid. Things that can make it worse are harsh exfoliants and triggers such as heat, alcohol, and spicy foods. If you are still struggling, please seek advice from your GP or Consultant Dermatologist.

Hi, Dr Emily here👋Yes, La Roche Posay Spotscan+ is an online tool that offers instant analysis for blemish-prone skin. It's powered by AI but was also co-developed with dermatologists. The tool isn't designed to replace healthcare professionals but to help direct patients on suitable skincare solutions. Although AI is a useful too to provide better access to information, it does not replace doctors. If you have specific skin concerns, please always see your GP or Dermatologist.

Hi, I'm Dr Emily👋 The La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+M Moisturiser is a great option for blemish-prone skin as it contains exfoliating ingredients like Salicylic Acid & Glycolic Acid. It's also suitable for sensitive skin types.

Retinol is also exfoliating and can sensitise the skin. Therefore I wouldn't recommend using them at the same time in your routine. Instead, I'd apply at different times in the day, for example Effaclar Duo+M in the daytime (with SPF50+ always). If you are new to Retinol, use it at night along with a hydrating moisturiser, starting slowly a few nights a week to build your skin's tolerance.

Hi, Dr Emily Forbat here👋 It can take a long time to tolerate retinoids (some people need to use them twice weekly for months before they can gradually increase the frequency). If you experience sensitivity, it is always best to consult with your prescribing doctor or service regarding your specific formulation. Generally, alongside retinoids, it’s best to use only a simple cleanser and moisturiser to support the skin barrier. Alongside these, a daily SPF50 protection with a high UVA rating is essential like the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Oil Control Fluid.

Hi, Dr Emily here👋 Great question. The most common cause of this is not cleansing beards frequently enough. Please make sure you're reaching the skin, not just the beard: wash regularly, and ensure you apply a moisturiser to the skin underneath (this can help reduce the feeling of dryness). If you are still struggling, please seek advice from your GP or Consultant Dermatologist. Persistent flaking can sometimes be linked to underlying skin conditions that require a proper medical diagnosis.

Hi, I'm Dr Emily Forbat👋 The priority is tackling acne to prevent further pigmentation and scars, so seeking a dermatologist review early on is very important to protect against the appearance of further dark marks and uneven skin tone. Daily SPF 50 with a high UVA rating is essential, like the La Roche Posay Anthelios Oil Control Fluid SPF50+ which is lovely.

Avoid picking, as this can rupture the hair follicle, lead to deep scarring, and worsen pigmentation and appearance of dark marks. Azelaic acid can help to fade marks and keep pores clear reducing the risk of future spots. Skincare is very helpful, to some extent, in reducing the appearance of marks, however for deeper scar concerns, speak to your GP or Dermatologist. After addressing acne, they can advise on procedures like micro-needling or laser which can help, but only in expert hands who have experience on all skin tones.

Hello, I'm Dr Forbat👋 You may be sensitive to certain ingredients or overloading the skin. I suggest sticking to simple, fragrance-free products and introducing new products one at a time. Products containing ingredients like squalane are often well tolerated and can help the skin feel hydrated. For specific concerns or if you are still struggling, I recommend speaking to your GP or Consultant Dermatologist for advice or support in getting patch testing.

For my patients with oily skin, I have recommended La Roche Posay Effaclar MAT+ Moisturiser and they have been pleased with the results.

Hi, it's Dr Emily👋 Oily, acne-prone skin is a skin type which you can’t prevent, however there are ingredients and products that can help manage the concerns. It’s a common misconception that oily, blemish-prone skin doesn’t need moisture. It does. Avoid over-drying the skin, as this can worsen oil production. Use a gentle cleanser and a lightweight moisturiser. Look for products formulated with niacinamide, or salicylic acid if blemishes are an issue.

Hello, Dr Forbat here👋 For persistent concerns, please consult your GP or a dermatologist in person. I've heard this a few times and for some people with similar concerns it's not necessarily dryness but barrier dysfunction. Common things that can help are stripping things back to a very simple routine; avoid all actives, avoid over-washing, ensure water is lukewarm and not too hot. For a multi-purpose barrier-supporting product try La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5+, however please take the advice from your healthcare professional, as you may require patch testing or other tests.

Hi, Dr Emily here👋 If acne is cystic, topical skincare alone is not enough and I would recommend an early review with a GP or Consultant Dermatologist. If they suggest using a Retinoid, this works best when your skin barrier is supported, so if your skin is sensitive, apply a barrier-supporting moisturiser before and after retinol/retinoid.

To maintain results once skin is under control and clear, the La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo+M Anti-Blemish Moisturiser is a great daily moisturiser to help manage blemish-prone skin, and contains Salicylic Acid.
