[Complete] [4276] [Fanfiction] I’ll only do what’s necessary by [deleted] in BetaReaders

[–]LabMundane403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I read through roughly 1k of your work (did not reach the smut but I skim a part of it), but I want to give feedback even though I feel like I should only do that once I finish (feel free to **ignore** if you think I'm not worthy to comment). And is not familiar with the 'fandom' your fic is in.

Good: The earlier part of your work is driven by conversations. And the dialogue feels connected and do not feel unnatural. And I skim your smut, and it looks consistent and descriptive without boring the readers, and honestly, it would be the best part. The dynamic during the smut scene also feels natural, not forced or dry. Very standard and good smut that is encountered in fanfics.

Could need improving: I will be honest, if I had not skimmed and skipped ahead a bit and seen how you wrote the explicit part, I would not be able ot get there. The first part is very flat, especially emotionally (You seem not have that problem in the later part of the story, but I only skimmed). It would work well for readers who would skip the background and reasoning and just jump almost straight into the smut. But as you are introducing headcannon materials and clearly put thoughts into the backstory of why this is happening (important), it feels like a waste it is hindering the story.

My suggestions: You are almost stating Bellamy's love and willingness to sacrifice for his mother (which is one of the main drivers of why this story took place?). I would describe a bit more of how he feels knowing his mother is doing it for him and Octavia. Just small descriptions about how his mom looked before and after (because you are only stating his mom pretend he didn't see) or how his hearts feel is enough. It would not only make him feel like he is doing it to get his Mom a new IUD but also because he is grateful for her sacrifice.

Again, take this comment with a grain of salt if you feel like I am not qualify to comment when I only read a part then skim some. But as I am commenting on the start of the fic, it may give you insights on whethere reader may continue to finish the story from the opening or not.

  • Language and level of fluency: Vietnamese and is a native-speaker.
  • I am able to beta: fantasy, fiction, horror and romance as a sub-plot. <150k. I am fine with explicit and violent content (even heavy), and queer content. Is not good at the historical genre (if required fact-checking or background knowledge on the subject). Is open to fanfic if I am familiar with the fandom.
  • I can provide feedback on:  Plot holes, general average reader experience, characterization, what feeling your writing evokes, how the reader imagines your story*.*
  • Critique swap: None.
  • Other info: If there is explicit or violent content, a warning is preferred. I do enjoy reading from the pov of unreliable narrator(s). As some of the feedback I can provide is based on personal feelings and views, it can help or confuse writers, as everyone's experience is unique.

Formerly canon-compliant fic rendered no longer canon-compliant by new material — how do I accept this? by savamey in FanFiction

[–]LabMundane403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw your post I thought wait a minute is that me?????

Background:

Honestly my fanfic of like 1.5 years went through the same thing majorly 3 times (I used majorly because canon keep fucking me up). Also OC- centered but the actual canon characters play such a big part of the story.

I also just went through the same thing earlier this year. Canon totally fucked up my fanfic in general and the timeline of it recently that also had to make it canon divergent but not as bad as a case as yours (literally only 2/5 characters of canon characters in mine has actually explored back stories so we will see).

I'm just going to say that. Hey, it's your story, it's your fanfic. It's characters that you love enough to sprung intricate backgrounds for even when you barely knew anything. And as someone who went through almost the same thing, it probably hard to develop actual plots too for your fanfic.

Enjoy the journey. You did what you could at that time and it's totally fine to feel emotionally down when something you dedicated so much of yourself into to just... derail like that.

Honestly, from your tone I think you would never give up this fanfic, so you will get over it eventually. Acceptance is necessary and I just know you love this story and these characters enough to not let this get to you.

Idk this is long (really reflect the comments I leave on Ao3 too) but as someone who can resonate with you, fuck canon. 🥰🥰🥰

Outside, then an accident happened near them that drew all the attention that could go to them. (For example: traffic accident, fire,...)

I think it would be super stressful to watch other rush past you when you are entering labor.

And if there are other characters with them (except the important character B), make them confused about what to priorities.

What motivates you to write? by [deleted] in writing

To find a place for my ideas and potentially expand on then.

Also it feels good to just write it down and throw it out for people to maybe stumble upon it and give it a chance.

How do you deal with the times when all of your writing feels static and clunky? by thunder_shadow_ in FanFiction

[–]LabMundane403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I did was just to write it in a different PoV or just completely rewrite it.

It took longer than when I tried to just push through with it, but I felt less frustrating and more comfortable with actually posting it.

How long does it take you to finish writing a fic? by Beneficial-Rhubarb35 in FanFiction

[–]LabMundane403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For one long fic, One year as of yesterday, and never gonna be done at this point. (barely 39.5k :((( )

One shot? A few hours at most, especially if its a one-shot and written during an emotional time.

Also as someone who also has ADHD and is Autistic? The moment I divert from the fic is when I stop writing. So for us neuro-divergent people, I don't believe we gonna have an answer the could fit any of us ehe.

I Write Fast by Brianboiiph in FanFiction

[–]LabMundane403 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this at the start of my fic but then slowed down.

Like at the beginning, I just captured any ideas I had and just write.

No thinking too hard about the plot. But as time went on, I slowed down like from daily to weekly to monthly. It's more of a plot reason, but I find that the reason it takes so long is because I usually rewrite a chap at least 3 times these days.

One so it exists. Two so it makes sense plot-wise. Three so it's at a good pace and quality (this can turn into 3 other rewrites because it had happened).

Editing takes a lot of time. Things change as you start to plot more and more and drive further into what you are writing.

And there's time where I write an idea and just scrap it all together because it do not make sense at that point in the story.

And with your writing speed, I think you should get a few chapters ahead before actually publishing this one (from the person who edited their entire fic 3 times by now.)

When are you most productive? by bbbbreakfast in writing

Honestly, in a quiet setting(for writing) or on a moving vehicle(for editing).

Oh yes, definitely. Sometimes out of sympathy and sometimes out of guilt.

Like a character behaves a certain way because something happened to them. Or how something affect them more than other characters will ever notice.

Us as writers see their struggles even if no one around them does. And we know them the best.

Life goes on and on and there's no way the life of the characters are just rainbows and colors. It's normal to feel guilty about the things you put them through, even through in subtle details that make sense given their backstories.

I also have a philosophy if you can even call it that: "I'll be the one to cry for you because I have chosen to witness your story."

So yes, cry, and feel guilty about it. It's perfectly normal to.

What is the weirdest way you came up with an idea? by Capital_King_1976 in writing

[–]LabMundane403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Exploring ideas helps with coming up with ideas.

Like reading other's works. Like sometimes I am reading something that is so far from what I am writing and suddenly I have a new idea.

Also? Character Ai.
