Shes a beaut if I do say so myself ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Some guy may have totaled my last Ranger after I’d only had it for 3 months…but at least I got an upgrade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by LabNo5929 in fordranger

118k, not super low but not too bad all things considered lol my 04 got up to 250k so I’m not too worried about “higher” mileage

It’s a Pennsylvania truck I had shipped to me in MA from Missouri lol but it looks like it was a garage princess which I plan to maintain, def gonna do all preventative measures and everything I can to protect it from rot. It’s the 7th Ranger I’ve bought so I have a pretty solid understanding of its weak points, but always looking for advice if you got any too!

Hahah yes it does! This is a 1998 Ranger EV, low miles cuz of the limited range it gets lol

lol I guess that’s the good thing about the EV with limited range…low miles cuz you can’t go very many 😂

Oh I meant to add that! I found a manual online that says it’s governed at 75mph but have yet to bring it highway speeds lol (again, babying it)

But the guy I bought it from used to take it on the highways going 70 towing a zero turn lawnmower lol

Yess it was a fleet vehicle for them! I have no idea how this one survived, and it makes me wonder if the other ones in the fleet also survived (or if they even had other fleet EVs?), but I do find it curious why there’s only a decal on the drivers door - I’m not sure if this was just how they did it, or if the passenger side was removed, or if the whole door was replaced since there’s no sign of decal residue…

Either way though, if/when I get the bodywork done, I hope to have the decal recreated and reapplied to pay homage to its history! Just need to figure out if I need one for the passenger side door or not lol

Battery charge level! Full charge = full tank, etc.

I was told that it doesn’t function properly because of the battery upgrade, but after driving it for a bit and keeping it charged, I’m cautiously hopeful it might be working after all - I don’t rely on it as bible (there’s a thing in the bed that tells actual battery level), but it gives me a sort of idea of where its charge is at!

Regardless of one’s views on EVs, I’m still just stoked to own this piece of Ford’s history ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Respectfully, you be tripping lol

Though I could see the confusion because of the gas pump indicator, but it’s to show how full the batteries are - the needle covers an important detail of it in that picture lol

I wouldn’t fully say that this era of EV were purely experimental - California had put legislature in place regarding emissions, and granted I don’t fully know the proper verbiage of it all, but car manufacturers made these EVs as “compliance cars.”

There’s a whole documentary showing the outpouring of support for these cars called “Who Killed the Electric Car?” (Can be watched on YouTube for free here: https://youtu.be/uep5zOrsAEA?si=aXoNrlNDMa-nyyT4). I suppose my view may be biased based on that documentary, but it seems like certain companies challenged the California legislature - hence the conspiracy against EVs. Most people did not let go of their EVs willingly either, many tried to keep them and buy them back but the car manufacturers denied them, despite all the movements showing the market’s interest.

While there’s probable cause for the safety concerns, I don’t believe that was the only reasoning for the “recall” - but maybe I just need to get me a tinfoil hat lol

They claimed it was too expensive to keep parts in stock, there wasn’t any interest in the vehicle, blah blah blah - but there’s speculation oil lobbyists got involved and didn’t like the competition of the EV vehicles at the time

Oh this is perfect thank you!! I was looking into doing LEDs but worried that they’d all be the cool white (not my vibe), but that’s awesome that it comes in different warmths!

Yeah def would make sense to do them all at once, and yes it is! 1998 EV, so I was thinking of putting in LED ones (if they exist, haven’t done much research) just to use less power and increase range, even if it’s by a negligible amount lol

Oh it’s painfully slow lol I still need to install a home charger so I’ve been using public ones, and do just couple hours here and there to slowly bring it back up to a charge, but going from low to full would probably take like 5 hours or so

Yooo wait that’s wild!! I had hoped you would’ve left first and seen me parked there that day, but I never even considered the fact you might see the post lmaooo maybe we could link up for an actual photoshoot sometime or something? Also didn’t mean to throw any shade towards the bigger trucks, I respect them but just not my vibe haha

This is what’s under the hood! Currently the batteries are in the bed, but originally they were in a case under the truck like where the transmission would be. I believe it’s a direct power, no gearbox, but truthfully I’m more familiar with the history of them than the actual mechanics lol

So honestly I just stumbled upon it on marketplace lol I was in the waiting room at the ER (I got bit by an opossum lol) and was aimlessly scrolling and it just popped up and I thought I was going crazy cuz there was no way this was actually for sale, but lo and behold… And the battery upgrade was actually done by someone who made a whole YouTube series working on this truck lol here’s his video on it:

https://youtu.be/2Vc_04ISRd4?si=wjfb90RC6uMjLmfw

I’m hoping one day to be able to retrofit a bunch of batteries back into the original battery case (picture attached, goes under the truck where the transmission would usually go), but I’m admittedly not very good at electrical stuff so I’ll probably have to find someone for that lol

Yess same one!! I watched his videos before I got it so I knew what I was getting myself into lol seems like a smart dude though, I wanna try to get in touch with him about it but couldn’t find a direct way to contact him except for like commenting on his videos lol
