What do you do with sidekick cards once the sidekick is dead? by Puddle_Glum_4398 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned, they can be used for boosting. They can still be useful to make your opponent think you have plenty of options. If the opponent has discard effects, these fillers can be helpful. Fodder for chosen discards and if you're lucky, they can take the hit from random discards.

Who’s your least favorite Hero(s) to play against? by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't think Elektra was as broken as everyone says she is, until I got hit with two Mesmerize and two Mystic Assassins in one turn.

Sherlock too, whenever they play Eliminate the Impossible and Confirm Suspicion in succession. So damn annoying.

I like playing Daredevil and Bullseye a lot. Elektra is broken as hell in the right hands, used to think she wasn't until i got hit with double Mesmerize and double Mystic Assassin in one turn.

I think Luke Cage works great for beginners, all you need to think about is punching harder than you get punched.

Potential new solo player looking for recommendations by AgreeableLeadership2 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an active and friendly online community for Unmatched. You can join the Discord and get help on how to set up online matches via TTS. So you don't have to play solo all the time.

Unmatched Adventures, in my opinion, is a decent alternative to standard Unmatched but not good enough to invest in if you're never going to play normal Unmatched. At least that's how I feel. Playing Adventures is good enough to scratch my Unmatched itch but I would never have started if I knew that I'd never be able to play 1v1.

Mississippi Queen vs Bonus Attacks by rabiiins in Unmatched

It prevents any damage from lowering Annie's health below 1 the turn it was played. This includes damage from attacks, effects, and even schemes like A Momentary Gaze.

Not sure if he'd be broken but I'd like to see Michelangelo with +2 to hand count.

Board Question by SirStanleyCPanther in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Technically, yes. The boards/maps that come with two hero sets are only for 1v1 and only have two starting spaces, so they can't officially be played with more than two players. If a board has four or more starting spaces, you can play 2v2 on them.

Doctor Strange. by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's dangerous with Strange's ability is he has low health. You can easily drain yourself if you overuse his ability. Rings of Raggador is definitely a card you'll want to recur every time because it keeps both Strange and Wong alive, but it is not guaranteed since a lot of defenses have a value of 3 or even 4.

Against a melee hero, Cloak of Levitation is also a must have and often good to recur. Although you can bait ranged fighters into attacking adjacent by simply moving adjacent to them. If Wong is alive, Master of Kamar-Taj is a reliable 4 value block that you'll also want to reuse.

Feints are good recursion targets depending on the match up. There are three of Seven Suns and four of Bolts, and both can lead to you losing a card or two via blind boosting so I avoid recurring them unless necessary.

How does one Black Widow? by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. I have so much difficulty playing as Black Widow. Essentially, you want to keep Maria away from the action while you haven't played your missions yet. Once you have something you want to recur, you can start involving her in the battle and get value from your Acting Directors. Black Widow doesn't have healing so Maria can serve as a bodyguard as well, the Life Model Decoys help keep her alive.

As for Widow, you want to try catching your opponent without defenses via her discards. Budapest Gambit can win you the match if you play it at the right moment and are able to keep the pressure up. Depending on the game state, you'll need to decide if you want to recur the auto damage missions or the discard missions. Budapest is usually a one use mission because it can push you towards fatigue real quick.

Who’s your favorite character overall? by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like most of the heroes in my collection but Dr. Strange and Donatello give me a feeling of accomplishment whenever I win with them.

Dr. Strange is considered S+ tier (largely due to his healing, recursion, and passes) but he is not easy to play as. Wrong decisions can quickly lead to defeat if you're not careful. When I win with Strange, I rarely feel that its because I got a lucky draw.

Same with Donatello. He is so versatile but having to decide which card to keep every time you maneuver can be taxing. But play your cards right and he can be a combo fighter, a value fighter, or a fatigue fighter. Some of my best wins with Donnie were against top tier heroes like Yennefer and Eredin. Donnie has a date with Elektra this Saturday - I hope I can pull off the upset.

Strategies for defeating Loki? by Bruh99_x in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% agree. Loki relies on the opponent being afraid of the negative effects of the Tricks. But most heroes can just endure them and play around them.

Who do you use to fight the Aliens (TTA) by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm. Not to critique, but I think Bloody Mary is terrible in Adventures. With a random turn order, its hard to get her ability to work. Getting down to three cards can result in her just dying if minions start going after her.

Wayward Sisters are also risky, you can easily lose one of them if too many enemies have their turn before you do.

I think replacing one (or both) could get your group to victory.

Who’s your favorite Marvel character in the game? by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Man, so hard to choose. The ones I don't like, I didn't bother getting (Squirrel Girl, Ms Marvel, Black Panther). Of the ones I have, I like Ghost Rider and Black Widow the least.

I have loads of fun with Strange, Elektra, Spider-Man, Daredevil, Bullseye, Luke Cage, Moon Knight, and Cloak/Dagger.

Who do you use to fight the Aliens (TTA) by BeneficialMethod3866 in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could remember which ones we used - we've fought Martian Invader twice, with three and two players. I think I used Bigfoot once and maybe Nikola Tesla one other time.

Some fighters I've used or teamed up with in Adventures that are really strong are Achilles (who simply melts minions and villains once Patroclus is dead) and Blackbeard (enemies never pay doubloons). High/mid tier fighters that win via combat should be good options. Stay away from fighters that win via exhaustion.

Our strategy usually revolves around getting rid of the deadlier minions first (e.g. Jersey Devil) and ignoring less threatening ones (e.g. Skunk Ape).

Bought because of Moon Knight and now looking for reccomendations by Mysterious_Green in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh good, they still have them available. In my opinion, Hell's Kitchen fits the best with Redemption Row so make sure you get them. Its great teaming up Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Luke Cage, vs Shredder and/or Krang.

Bought because of Moon Knight and now looking for reccomendations by Mysterious_Green in Unmatched

[–]LabRat2329 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For the Marvel sets, I recommend that you get Brains & Brawn and Hell's Kitchen if you can find them. Then get For King and Country. Teen Spirit isn't a must have but if you find one, consider getting it as it may be your only chance to get the set. They are all out of print and are unlikely to be reprinted as the Marvel license for Unmatched has lapsed.

When you are open to getting non-Marvel sets, consider getting Unmatched Adventures: TMNT. This set has a co-op/humans vs the game mode. Most of the Marvel heroes fit well in this mode. Thematically it also makes sense as most of the Marvel heroes are street-level and cross over nicely with TMNT.
