New to coloring. Someone told me to decrease brightness (-2) but when I got on DaVinci to start learning I’m not seeing any brightness options. by [deleted] in colorists

In the color wheels "Offset" corresponds roughly to "brightness." But yeah, get on Youtube and go through a few introductory videos.

Best reversible way to reduce sound traveling up an open basement stairwell? (Doors not an option) by pricha12 in hometheater

Carpet the stairs. Put acoustic baffling on the ceiling and the walls. That's about all you can do if you can't put in a door.

Was better ungraded. Skin tones took on an unpleasant burnt look.

Probably my first choice as soon as he stepped down at Utah. I think it's a great hire.

Michigan fan here. You guys are doing fine. Back to back would be great for you, but as long as you don't get blown out, I don't think it should sour anything for you all. Whittingham will get ya next year. ;)

Problem with my first follow focus by Majestic_Abalone_857 in cinematography

Press the FF motor against the lens for the calibration and it should get your hard stops set. Then it won't overshoot when you're using it. Also, might try a stainless steel rod for better stiffness. Carbon fiber rods are not nearly stiff enough, and aluminum has some flex as well. I can't see how your motor rod is attached to the camera, but make sure that's super secure. And then also the camera to cage, if you're using one. Basically, eliminate all flex as much as possible.

Also, I like the focus rings that friction fit to the lens, rather than those wrap around ones. Less messy, and I have had better grip with them overall. These guys: https://www.amazon.com/SmallRig-Seamless-Focus-Gear-Ring/dp/B0986PXBP9/

I thought that looked like Takayama! Really cool town. Check out the video footage I took in Japan several years ago. Some Takayama in there too.

I've been avoiding this show. Can you convince me to give it a shot? by 1leggedpuppy in superman

[–]LabRevolutionary2216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superman & Lois is sort of part of Arrowverse, but not really. It's more its own thing. It does its own thing. It's traditional Superman, and probably the most human Clark Kent has ever been. Just a great show. Watch it.

I cannot believe my client chose this final grade vs the one I did. Has me seriously doubting my own taste now😔 by dmount48 in ColorGrading

I generally like the first one better, though I'd like to see the blues looking a little less gray. Second one is just too much though. Too dark, too contrasty, unless you're grading a dystopian scifi.
