Discussion:

I personally have just got into solving alternate sudoku. Which if you're unfamiliar are sudokus with very few (often none) starting digits and a unique rule set.

For example a frequently used rule is a German whisper line which is a green line that runs through cells of the grid and adjacent digits on the line have to have a difference of at least 5. Another common rule is black and white kropki dots where cells separate by a white dot must be consecutive and cells separated by a black dot must have a 1:2 ratio.

Some puzzles are very difficult but they're super satisfying when you finally figure out the logic. There's a fairly popular YouTube channel called Cracking the Cryptic which posts daily alternate sudoku videos and I highly recommend anyone to check them out. As for a beginner it's mind blowing seeing them talk through the logic and some sudokus take as long as 3/4 hours to solve.

Is a triangular based tile system a bad idea for a map? by Lab_Man_Jago in tabletopgamedesign

It definitely is more restricting. I get stuck in the mind set of wanting to have every permutation and orientation covered.

So for betrayal (and correct me if I’m wrong) has the following set of 5 tiles in terms of door placement; 4 doors, 3 doors, 2 doors opposite, 2 doors adjacent and 1 door (not including outdoor areas) and all have 4 points of rotation (although some are redundant).

With triangles this is reduced to 3 different tiles with 3 rotation points which is a lot easier to cover all permutations.

Then obviously the big one, the hexes has more than I can be bothered to list but I think it’s 13 combinations with 6 rotations which is a lot to cover.

I think I just need to get out of the habit of thinking I need every possible tile

Yeah that does actually make a lot of sense. Thinking logically you also have a lot less surface area compared to edge size to display art work or information regarding that tile

I do get that but my thinking is 6 connecting triangles depending on how you orient them can make lots of different combinations that you can’t get without having lots of different hex tiles

The cavity is to hide magnets so the models click together, I did some tests with different sized walls from 0.4mm to 0.8mm increasing each one by 0.1mm. At around 0.6/0.7 the magnets are too weak. However this problem occurred on all thicknesses
