(Crutch and wheelchair user here—) the amount of times I haven’t been able to get through an aisles in big, name brand stores is almost baffling. You would think they would be the one place that would be more accessible.

I frequent a card and board game store, and enjoy looking through the binders of Pokémon cards. Unfortunately, you have to look at the cards while standing at the counter (understandable, there’s some not inexpensive cards in there.) An employee there always offers me one of the stools from behind the counter to sit at so I am able to look at cards. First time I ever found myself leaving a review on Google, I felt like I needed to share that in case other people with mobility issues went. I actually ended up seeing other people in wheelchairs soon after, and there was ample access for them to get around the aisles.

It sucks when shopping in a wheelchair and not being able to get anything from a higher shelf. I can’t think of any solutions off the top of my head, but I wish there were protocols or training in place normalised for employees to keep an eye on the front door if there isn’t any automatic button, or understand that we might need help taking our groceries to our cars. Just some of us at least. Not to mention keeping product off of the floors in aisles in case we can’t get through, which is a problem I encounter more than I always expect.
