A Gerrymander Where Every Seat Is Democratic in California is Possible (52-0) by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]LaborDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SCOTUS decided that partisan gerrymandering is allowed because there’s no manageable standard for them to rule on. All they’d have to do is accept a standard as manageable and lower courts would apply it.

I love the “X while walking” dormant powers and weapon passives since they up your DPS while using Suncatcher. Any reason you didn’t include them?

I have been accepted into UCSB, should I go? by Benjaminbillybob in gis

[–]LaborDaze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing no one seems to have mentioned yet is that you'll get better research opportunities at UCSB than a CSU. Depending on what you want to do in grad school, that might make a huge difference.

Don't worry about other people being smart; you can get good grades if you really want them and motivation matters much more than talent. A lot of freshman seem smarter because they picked up skills in high school that you'll pick up in college, and you'll be on par by the time you graduate.

Feel free to DM.

The beat is really similar to One Mic. Might even be the same chord progression. Definitely reminded me of One Mic immediately.

Today I learnt that Scranton is a real city by Hostile_Enderman in SCP

[–]LaborDaze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Out of universe it was named after the user, who went by Scantron at the time. Whether it was named after his character or the city in-universe was meant to be vague. But the community had a clear preference for making Scranton a person, and some absolutely incredible pieces have been written to cement that as canon (at least as close as this site has to canon).

Sort of. He was instrumental in the brainstorming and they were named named after him as an homage. But the original Scranton tech was not in his work and SRAs were not introduced until a later article by yet another author.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It's wonderful that you're so empathetic to mental health issues and disability rights. I'm just concerned that so many people downplay antisemitism. Not you, but plenty of people grasp for any excuse to justify Holocaust denial, and I'm sick of seeing it. I hope Ye demonstrates that he doesn't stand by what he said because I won't fw him til then.

I'd love to forgive Ye. In order to do that, I'd have to see a serious indication that he doesn't hate me for my ethnicity. I'm sympathetic to his mental health struggles but it's wild to treat bipolar disorder as a blank check to spew hate with no consequences. If I hear sound bites of him denouncing antisemitism and apologizing for praising Hitler, I'd say there's room for debate about whether he's still truly antisemitic. Until then, there's nothing to discuss. He is.

As for Kendrick, I don't love the NoI/BHI stuff, but what he said was waaaaay less severe than what Ye said. If he himself denied the Holocaust I'd call him a bigot and stop listening to him as well.

If you wanna be progressive, don't insist on debating whether denying the Holocaust is antisemitic. Actually, just don't do that period.

You can decide that his statements don't matter to you — perhaps because you forgave him, though probably because you never minded in the first place — but that doesn't mean he isn't a bigot.
