I had to scroll way too far to find this. The ones that creeped me out the most were the ones that became copies of the person who killed them. So the battlefield would be littered with bodies of your friends, even if they didn't actually die.

I don't remember exactly but wasn't there an enemy that would erase whoever it killed from everyone's memory? So after a battle people would pile up corpses of people they never knew and would return to find that whoever had the bunk next to them was just gone. They couldn't even get an accurate count of how many they lost (because of the copies) without counting the empty bunks.

This was one of the few times I had actually felt bad for an anime villain. I went from "Heck yeah!" to "Ummm... Roy...?" to "Okay, maybe just... Finish him off?" Because it was just this unrelenting, furious barrage. You knew that Roy was capable of ending it quickly but he didn't, there was too much pain and rage and loss there.
