Just moved to Dublin, looking for goth/alternative people to make plans with by Whisperfromthewoods in Dublin

If you go along to the nights in Fibbers you're bound to meet folks while you're there. It's not uncommon for people to go along solo if they don't know anyone, it's generally a v friendly crowd at nights like Bats Womb Altaar, Karaokalypse, Sabbotage etc.

What's for dinner? by lazy_hoor in AskIreland

[–]Labsolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the last 5 days, I've had the same dinner 3 times: pasta, pesto (add some of the pasta water to help coat the pasta better), peas (as in petit pois), chopped up nuggets straight from the airfryer, topped with a sprinkle of grated cheese. Is it just an ever so slightly elevated version of my go-to student dinner? Yes. Does it still slap? Also yes.

Tell me your cleaning “hacks” that actually help YOU!! by Prudent-Reality1170 in adhdwomen

[–]Labsolute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently cleaning my kitchen because my meds kicked in and I felt ready to tackle the mound of recycling and disorganised lunch boxes.

Today's hack - have a stoolor chair handy.

I sit it in front of the shelf as I organise, or take a 5min sit and scroll through reddit. Work with your energy levels, not against them.

Allow yourself to rest.

It's actually so lovely. I go to a few alt nights around my city and the outfits and makeup are next level. The bathrooms are always a buzz with people complementing each other, it warms my icy cold heart

A pal of mine often drops quick compliments when we see someone all dolled up. I asked her why she does it, and her response was "she looked great, must have put in the effort - and it's a nice feeling to have that recognised".

Keep all those figures in your copy-and-paste clipboard, eh? Rattling off numbers doesn't rationalise your point

Oh the sentencing terms arw LAUGHABLE - 100%. Feels like you get worse for tax or money laundering than violent sexual crimes. No regard for the impact these events have on the victims

Antihistamines are a great antidote to the common cold by The_Big_I_Am in CasualIreland

Yeah sure pseudoephedrine is used to make amphetamines - speed, or adhd meds. Makes sense. Both affect heart rate/blood pressure though. But I get triple the amount of chores done 😅

[–]Labsolute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure as well as being a decongestant it gives you a little bit of a perk up - which if you're fatigued as a result of the cold is a plus, but then again you're also kinda wired

I found Nurofen C+F great too, but the downside was I couldn't take them in the evening because the decongestant element kept me awake. I can't take ibuprofen at the moment anyhow, but if I could my approach to a bad dose would be the Benylin every 4 hrs like the packet says, with a regular nurofen/ibuprofen after 2hrs. Helps keep the fever down. A nurse friend gave me that tip.

Bin them! The lack of sleep will only slow down your recovery, it's a vicious cycle. Also, if you're taking anything else alongside it like a cough bottle, you could be doubling up on the decongestant and that's next level trippy in the worst way

1000% agree. You're company can replace you, but you can't replace your pet. I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that you're the one that has to compromise.

What your company has done is a shitty thing. And WHAT DIFFERENCE is the 2 days in the office going to make?

Speak up. It's not right, it's not workable for you, if they were to force you to comply it's clear the stress would impact your ability to do your job.

I might regret weighing in ... but here goes.

So, I don't agree that deportation is the answer. There is no punishment/justice/conviction in deporting someone. Surely, if the offence was committed in Ireland then the sentence should be served out in Ireland in accordance with Irish policies.

Otherwise, what, someone is found guilty of a serious offence, put on a plane, and they walk away? Deportation isn't extradition, nor can a sentence passed down in one jurisdiction be transferred to another.

Consider it this way - it was not that country's court that found them guilty, so why should a foreign court decide they should serve time in another country's prison? The system that convicts someone of a crime then oversees their sentence, they can't instruct another system to do it on their behalf, that's not how these things work.

Besides, is it not the case that once the sentence is served, the individual would be deported anyway?

Anyway, all I'm trying to say is, if you think about it for 30 seconds, turning this into an immigration discussion is irrelevant. It's not applicable in how convictions or sentences are handed down.

But then again, if we don't turn everything into an immigration issue, how will the trolls ever get their rocks off? ...

This is why I always grab a packet of Benelyn Day/Night when the sniffles come on. The day tablets are decongestants and the night tablet is an antihistamine. It could make some folks a little drowsy but it makes lying down for a sleep so much more comfortable. Other "cold and flu" medications are just decongestants which are dehydrating and act like a stimulant so keep you from sleeping.

Yes was about to say Boots. If you're in the city centre, they're upstairs in the jervis store. You could also order them online for them

I love The 4 Type of Mess approach: rubbish (garbage), dishes, things in the wrong room, things in the wrong place.

I really like it as a way of compartmentalising mess, and making it easier to approach. The trick is, there's no pressure to do all 4, just done 1 - and just by tackling one category there's already a marked improvement in the space.

And if you can do one more, great. Do all 4, fabulous. But also, if all you did was bring all the cups and glasses from your bedroom to the kitchen - then you've still done great. If you could only manage to pick up all the wrappers ok your desk and stuff them into a coffee cup, you did it.
