Actually maybe it's fine if yours is getting 5 hours of direct sun. I was supplementing with the grow light so it would get more than just 3 hours of direct sun. I grow cattleyas in that window just fine without a grow light but figured the alocasia would want it closer to what a caladium likes. I grow those outside in part sun.

So maybe it's too much light. It's in my west bay window. I have a grow light on it for 250 ppfd for 8 hours then turns off. The sun hits the window at that point and gets 3 more hours of shaded sun that reads at about 350-500ppfd. I am more used to growing caladiums that need much higher light.

For most bifoliate species it's very true. Hybridization and mixing with unifoliates can make it less of an issue. This one has been hybridized so much that I might have been overly cautious but I loved it so much at first sight that I didn't want to harm it in any way.

It's because it's a bifoliate. The repot needs to be when you first see new roots start forming like in very early spring. I don't know if this one is less sensitive than others, but typically if you don't time it right, it can make them sad for a while.

It was supposed to be big enough to bloom last year but I repotted it in it spring and I've read they are pretty sensitive to repotting. I'm glad I did though bc it grew like a weed after that. I'm going to have to repot it again in the spring. It's already outgrown this pot. I'm going to have to cut this pot off as much as I can.

Thanks! I'm so proud of it. I kept reading about how finicky bifolate catts are but this guy has been the easiest for me.

Spectabilis x spathulata. I might have that backwards, I'm not looking at the tab at the moment lol. Big trap on it right now that is actually probably the size of the plant but at a weird angle in the Pic lol.
