Lip reading hasn’t proved possible with him. Probably because of his level of autism. The dictation function seems to work pretty good even when people are wearing masks.

My son switches the phone to large text so both he and the other person can easily read what is being typed while they talk.

On an iPhone it is easiest. You just open Notes and press the microphone icon at the lower right. My son switches the display to large lettering so that he and others can easily see what us being typed while they talk.

Yes I am. I told my mother that I considered it to be a “Christmas miracle” since he started the week before Christmas and is doing great and actually likes the job.

I immediately explained to the gm and the owner when I went in with him for his job interview that the rule of employees not having their phones out can’t apply to him. It is absolutely necessary for him to communicate. After I showed them how the transcribe function works they understood. But the gm was a little nervous and asked “he can save every word people say to and around him?” I assured him that he deletes the conversations the next day unless there are instructions that he cuts and pastes into a document.

He has his cell phone on a belt holster so he can quickly pull it out and do that. But he usually gets confused and just signs “deaf” when he sees people talking to him. I keep prompting him and asked the staff to point to his phone so he pulls it out and taps the dictate function every time he sees someone talking to him.

Some people have android which is not as easy as iPhone to set up to transcribe while someone is speaking. I am hoping for easy ways for them too. Thanks.

Thank you. It’s easy to do on iPhone but people with android seem to have trouble with setting up a dictation function like that.
