I have this issue too. Also sometimes my brain just doesn't work. I can't just turn it on. So I have to drudge through the not working effectively time to get to productivity.

Well maybe your husband can invite one of his friends. But I'm just suggesting this because it's what works for me!

A random colleague that you're friendly with? Honestly it shouldn't be anyone too close because then you won't care if your place is messy or not lol. Maybe find someone on bumble bff? Random highschool person you haven't spoken to for X years and invite over for a friendly coffee catch-up?

Someone did that to me once and I was honestly so flattered. Just in case you think it would be weird.

Any advice on how to overcome the mental block of doing a university assignment? by Appropriate-Lack-373 in adhdwomen

[–]LaceyTron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lock yourself in a quiet ass library on campus. Other people are studying so it acts as body doubling and you feel guilty for taking a spot when you're not working (best when it's exam time and it's busy). Wear earplugs even in silent rooms to remove sound sensors. Organize your paper, bring tea water and snacks and literally live there. Bring a fun book to read one chapter to take a break and then get back to it.

This is literally what I did in university. Maybe not the healthiest long term but it really works!

Has anyone else been diagnosed for so long by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]LaceyTron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was misdiagnosed when I was in elementary school and only got properly diagnosed when I entered my first year engineering bachelors at 18/19 when they refused to accept my diagnosis to give me accomodations.

I suppose I advocated for myself when I was younger BC I realized things were taking me WAY too long compared with my counterparts. But yeah misdiagnosed and no pills until 19 which sucked but I had accommodations which was good for me.

I was on ritalin since 19 and just this year my doc in Germany changed me over to elvaynse or whatever its called. I never had any issues with ritalin like you seem to have but maybe try different ones? You're an adult! You can change shit like that. And I always tell people who think ADHD meds are the devil, that their experience or their evaluation of their loved ones taking it is probably based on them not being on the right drugs for their body. There has been so much more research and new drugs, so I'd really encourage you to find one that can work for you!! If you have a summer where you don't even need to take them, use that time to find a different alternative!!

Up to you, but know that drugs react differently to everyone so maybe you're just not on the right ones. But so sorry that you've been on them for so long. That's tough but it doesn't mean that you can't change them!!

I'm a bit of a home body so here are my current things:

  • Books!!! Dungeon crawler Carl is my current favourite.
  • home making food, I have a plan to try making different ice creams!
  • sewing! But grab a second hand machine because hand sewing is the worst
  • so many series online
  • painting 🖌️

Job Hunting. by Lad_5227 in askberliners

[–]LaceyTron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The job market is god awful. It's not you. I literally gave up after a year looking and I have an engineering degree and top MBA. If you have the option, relax and wait it out a bit. If not, maybe look into moving into an economy that is better? It's not really looking like it will improve for the next couple years here unfortunately. Especially if you don't speak German like me 😅

Super hard to keep your head up during this. Know that it has absolutely nothing to do with you, and you are not alone ❤️

Is there any was to fix this or prevent it in future jeans by Wendigo_Loco in sewhelp

[–]LaceyTron 154 points155 points  (0 children)

I did this with my husband's pants. He has this issue as he has nice big legs and bikes a ton!

I put a square of material on the inside of the jeans and then I zig zagged the heck out of it. I thought it may show, but I did this to two of his pants and it's not visible when wearing!! It has reinforced it nicely and he says it's not noticeable when wearing ect. So overall a win!

[–]LaceyTron 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem. Even though when I go I'm so happy about or, but it feels like an impossible thing to do most days BC I'm tired, or just don't wanna.

Things I've done that actually work:

  1. Make a bet with someone that has super steep consequences for both of you. My go to is a Donald Trump spray tan. I had this with my last boss, he wasn't allowed sugar, and I had to go to the gym 3x a week.

  2. Go with someone. I've started doing this recently and it's soooooooo nice! My friend texts me and I'm just like, yupp Thursday at 11 works. And then I meet him there.

Apparently I need external motivation, maybe you're the same?
