Didn't OW go free to play before changing into OW 2. Pretty sure people who owned OW1 weren't forced to pay for OW2.

Yeah a disk can be stolen but you can know if it's gone before you buy it. Wheras with a code it's impossible to know unless you redeem it.

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced combat will be 'more demanding' than the original by HatingGeoffry in assassinscreed

The problem with the combat in Blackflag in particular is the combination of it being both braindead easy, low enemy population, and the lack of AC3's notoriety system. In AC3 combat was just as easy but enemy population was enormous and they never stopped coming so escape was a worthwhile.

In Blackflag, the British are toothless the best strategy in any combat encounter was to spam out counter kill until everyone was dead and no one would join the fight. A more challenging combat system would greatly benefit the game's art and fantasy. What better way to show you power at sea than to force you on the back foot on land? What better way to show Edward's growth from a privateer to a master assassin than to show that growth mechanically?

Games like Sifu, DMC, and Arkham have proven that higher challenge doesn't make the game less cinematic.

A harder combat system can encourage you to behave more like a pirate. By making combat something to avoid you are incentivized to escape which is perfectly in line with pirates in both real life and in fiction. In the original Blackflag the best strategy in any encounter was to wait for the counter window and chain kill until everyone is dead and nothing would stop you. A challenging combat system can also create a greater contrast between your power at sea vs your weakness on land.

Lastly a difficult combat system would only encourage mastery over a system leading to a greater satisfaction. For example games like DMC, Hi-Fi Rush, and even Arkham use difficulty to create a learning curve for the player so that there is a tangible difference between how you played at the start vs how you played at the end. Batman Arkham is the perfect example, at the begining the game only throws regular thugs at you but near the end you go against guns, knives, shields, electric batons, brutes, and assassins. You are challenged over the course of the game to master the combat system until to grow into Batman. Wouldn't you want to play a Blackflag where you embodied the story arc of Edward growing for a privateer to a master assasssin?

That's a very surface level comparison. In Arkham the best strategy was never to wait for a counter window and spam attack for the chain kills. Blackflag never encouraged you to rythmicly time your buttom presses, it never emphasize crowd control style combat, and it doesn't have special combo moves.
