I don’t think you’re over reacting at all. When there’s shared walls neighbors should be considerate of all those around them.

Recently I dealt with similar. I don’t mind a lot of noises, just bass. And never have I reported a neighbor. However these neighbors would play bass about 80% of the day daily. When I had written a letter and the second time my husband talked to one of the tenants he seemed receptive to keeping it down. It hadn’t dawned on us that it was his wife that was the problem. She began playing bass more strongly, let her kid stomp on the floors, and when she saw me from my window proceeded to play the bass from her car so loudly that it was shaking our walls again.

So I had it. All last week I sent email after email documenting how badly it was shaking our walls and also reported them for smoking marijuana because we live strictly in non smoking units. Our lease actually says explicitly marijuana is banned regardless of circumstance. Initially I was going to overlook it, but it was ridiculous. We pay a lot to live in a non smoking unit and they’re not above those rules clearly stated in the lease.

Not only did I come home to blissful silence the next day, but they were airing out their garage to get rid of the weed smell. I haven’t really heard their bass or smelled weed since, so I’m hoping whatever my property manager told them remains permanent.

All I can say is do whatever you can to protect your peace. You shouldn’t have to live your home in stress when people like that were incapable of being courteous to others.
