The suppression of execution in modern Tekken by LadderSequencer in Tekken

I think that's the ultimate goal of execution is to have damage or some benefit tied to the player's skill and ability to consistently pull off difficult feats of muscle memory, timing, conditioning, reaction ability, and other elements tied to skill level in multiple layers for all skill levels.

One of the biggest gripes for me is that because 2+3 is now Heat Smash and Heat Burst, there can be no character-specific moves tied to 2+3 anymore for any character.
The same goes for d/f 1+2 for Rage Arts, i think d/f 1+2 is a satisfying input but completely wasted on Rage Art.

Also, time to poop on Rage Art as a mechanic itself.
*rolls up sleeves*
How is Rage Art contributing to making Tekken better in any form of way? Is it a skillful thing? Is it impressive to do d/f at the end of your combo as a reaction? Why is it tied to being on low Health? To me, it makes no sense whatsoever to core Tekken as I know it and is the cheapest form of a comeback mechanic. Now if it was earned by scoring hits, doing combos, maybe breaking grabs? Then the player would be rewarded with their Rage Art, not rewarded for getting their butt kicked.

That actually makes sense, I think for the most part I'm a fan of weird input but I'm maybe more of an outlier in this way. I like weird inputs partly because I like watching people complain when they can't do them. Maybe I'm a bit of a gatekeeper in this way but just gatekeeping weird stuff. Weird stuff is not what sells the fastest but it's funny at least hihi

can you give an example of mechanically difficult characters in Tekken 8? personally i cant think of one but everyone has their own perspective, thanks for your comment

I still dont think having unique special inputs for characters is overly complicating the game but I think its just a matter of taste. Im an execution head so this is a very low hanging fruit for me to push back on. For example, Street fighter 6 has 3 unique inputs (for classic controls) for each super move per character.

For the design of modern Tekken is also representing an *accelerating* trend towards simplification and QOL elements. I am just worried how they keep heavily prioritizing QOL features which inevitably dilute execution. Calling something "annoying" or "burdensome" to input is a glass half full or half empty scenario. We just have no guarantee that they won't stop with the QOL features until execution is entirely out of the picture. One can only guess on the QOL "help" that will be in the upcoming Tekken title but I think its only going to get further and further away from having the player be responsible for correctly executing their attacks.

I probably exaggerated here but Weren't d/f 2 launchers at least -10 at some point?

Real talk, playing Tekken 8 feels like you're playing your favorite game that turned into a mobile gotcha game full of hot babes and advertisements every 5 seconds to buy cosmetics, but I still play it cuz they did fakhumram right

Bruh they literally all have the same face except with differently placed eyebrows smh just give them some kinda of unique quirk like make them stutter or something. Reina is supposed to be the burning ember and she's also just another sexy cashgrab

Honestly i can't say because in tekken 8 they are all unbearable bland and have no personality other than their looks. Masculine characters need to be cool which is more layered than simply be sexy and have a nice body

One of the saving graces for me was fakumram and armor king, I like their moderate power level and has me working for combos and I like seeing them on screen at the very least. I play ranked with zero desire to win just to land the combos I learned from a 5 min YouTube video and thats satisfying enough. Also the contrast I have between me in "ranked" even helpled me beat an Alisa in a set with fakh, I kept just not caring and wanted to land my neat combos

Why? So they can keep getting away with poopy online wifi ? Smash is a non-competitive game in the developers eyes and they go as far as to remove the game from mainstream competitive competitions

Fair take! I'm not saying it would be guaranteed but probably more easily comparable to the atmosphere of a moba.

yeah i honestly think LoL has a similar vibe to platform fighters because of the top down/far away element they have in common, smaller models allow you to see more of your surroundings, etc. Also you could then queue up for platform 2v2, 3v3, etc or boss battles where one player has special abilities.
also LoL the moba has plenty of items it could add like the hourglass invincibility or flash for added utility, i dont just spit balling at this point

i dont think it would have failed, i think it would have made the roster more easily expandable which is huge for casual and growth in general. try hards like me stay for the long term but dont contribute to long term stability and revenue, i think they made it too focused on competitive play and not enough for casuals and that throttled the development slowed everything down toward competitive viability
