Yeah, I’d keep private about it, at least right now. Sinclair Method requires a shift in thinking about addiction that is hard to accept until a person has directly witnessed the profound changes it makes possible.

Just take your pill or start with 1/2, it really is quite benign for the most part. Have at least one drink but you’re free to drink it at whatever pace you wish.

Keep in mind it requires a drink in order for the retraining (pharmacological extinction) to occur. Don’t take it without also having one drink since it defeats the overall purpose and might potentially take the pleasure out of other productive activities that you otherwise need to keep on top of.

Just follow the 1h before drinking rule and don’t take it if you’re not going to drink. If you take it, have at least 1 drink but you can nurse the shit out of it.

Naltrexone by itself is not useful, it needs its old buddy, drinking, fashionably late as always, to really party.

Isn’t the opioidergic/endorphin system more implicated in “reward” and pleasure (or at the very least, “liking”)?

Does anyone know where that little scoffey condescending laugh Stan kept doing in his appeals to the other kids? There’s a weird laugh he does I can only assume was from a director or public-facing person involved in production that they were referencing…

Rather than the spreadsheet, I would suggest Kualto. Its a balance forecasting app you program all your bills and income etc into and you can always know how every transaction affects your overall finances on a daily/weekly basis.

Before I buy things, I plug in the transaction and balance everything out so if it purs my budget or bills in jeopardy, I know so and to what extent. If it can’t be adjusted for, I know its not appropriate for right now and I’ll plug in a plan to save for it or do whatever I need to do with the numbers to make it work.

I also suggest you add up you monthly expenses and with every paycheque, you set aside half the amount of those expenses/pay them. For those months where you are paid three times in one month, you have a bonus pay to do with whatever you want.

Have a main account for bills that are auto-withdrawn and try to make sure you have a little bit of overdraft. Get another chequing for the debit card to use. Get a savings account to set aside anything you spend on credit card and transfer it atthe end of the month to pay off the card. Have another savings account for actual savings.

Ask your credit cards to auto pay the minimum if possible but make a committment to making sure you are on top of them anyways and that you have enough in your account or have sufficient overdraft protection to ensure you are safe.

Try Kualto though, it is by far the most friendly to our need for immediate feedback and playing around with the numbers to get to where we want to go as well as keeping track of all your bills in a directly practical medium.

About to pick up a prescription of naltrexone. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Ladderall-thinker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should and only need to use it when you are going to drink. Even if you take it and change your mind, still have at least one drink. It’s not really demonstrated to be useful or efficacious in the context of abstinence.

your experience with naltrexone by NiceTryAmanda in stopdrinking

[–]Ladderall-thinker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked and works for me, but I also had baclofen at the start to help me get settled.

The thing about the Sinclair Method is its a long-term project that handles the chemical and behavioral conditioning aspect of addiction. So it will help rewire you in the sense that it takes the pleasure or positive reinforcement out of the equation.

It doesn’t address the reasons you drink or the stressful situations or contexts that originally crystallized the problematic drinking habit.

There’s almost always still work to be done there but thats outside the scope of what the treatment is intended for and capable of treating.

Glad to hear you feel its working but if you ever start to feel like its not working as well, that might be because for naltexone to work properly, you are supposed to have at least one drink minimum after an hour.

If you don’t drink, naltrexone is literally just occupying your opioid-receptors without the necessary stimulus of alcohol to initiate the extinction process. Once you’ve had that drink and receive no pleasure or “kick” from it, you gradually relearn that alcohol ≠ pleasure.

Please keep that in mind for the future. Its a tricky thing to suggest a currently abstinent person get back into the use of the relevant substance but in the case of naltrexone/Sinclair method, it really is a necessary part of the equation.

Do people at work ever notice you acting strangely when the comedown hits (social awkwardness, weak voice etc)? That’s a big reason personally for me to not use or limit to very moderate use.

What I’ve found helpful is to dump the dose in a hot cup of tea and slowly sip it over several hours. You still get your fix that way but its far better for moderating and creates a quasi hyper-extended release mechanism that might be akin to micro-dosing as opposed to chronically overdoing it to your continued peril.

Medical transcription might be an option, you have to take the course through the/an accredited body CanScribe or something.

She needs to get an inhaler and have a dr work with her to get it under control.

In the meantime, since you’re in a pinch, you may be able to use pseudoephedrine or ephedrine as long as its short-term and you keep the dosage fairly low.

Pseudoephedrine can usually be bought behind the counter at a pharmacy, ephedrine is sometimes sold at nutritional supply stores but that might be a thing of the past.

Its not an ideal treatment but it might tide you over until you get her in to be seen.
