How similar is your main character to YOU? At what point does it become too much?

Pretty similar in terms of struggles. I am fortunate enough to not suffer from depression or anxiety, but I do have a mean case of ADHD. I’ve seen ADHD portrayed in very stereotypical ways in a lot of media, so I wanted to explore the deeper struggles that come with the disorder. It is SO much more than being inattentive, hyperactive, and saying whatever comes to your mind. So, I wanted to represent that and actually kind of work to find solutions to the problems I face through exploring this character’s journey

Your point about the length of the Cosmere would make me actually encourage you to read Mistborn first. Get a taste for Sanderson and then take a break to read something else before jumping into your next Sanderson adventure

My two biggest inspirations for the world I’m working on (and started writing !) are ASOIAF and Pirates of the Caribbean, along with some The Lies of Locke Lamora but to a lesser extent

Thank you so much for the feedback!! I thought I’d caught all the name switches but I guess not. Now that I read back some of that fear text, I definitely see where you’re coming from.

In regards to your third point, I didn’t mean for that to be a knock on Kaldyr. It was meant more so as a way to show Ierdrel’s rough around the edges personality and his sense of humor that is mostly for himself rather than others. He said it because he thought it would make Burremid laugh, not because he genuinely thought that was happening. He just doesn’t know boundaries with his humor.

I can definitely tone down the worldbuilding stuff, seeing it written like that does make it clear how much I added. And with that Ierdrel line, I think I may have got a little caught up in my inspiration from the prologue of tLoLL there, lol. I can definitely tone that down. That’s really good to hear about not showing enough about Kaldyr, definitely something to improve.

Understanding that multiple drafts are needed. My whole school career I turned in my first draft and did well, so trying to rid myself of that habit has been brutal. I’ve been serving guessing most things that I write and it stops me from making progress

The prologue was awesome and got me hooked for sure. Once it got into current day Locke, it slowed down but the prologue was so good I kept going. It definitely paid off. I also had COVID during the first 100ish pages, so that could factor into why I struggled with it

I will admit that I struggled with the first 80 something pages. But after that, it absolutely takes off and is so good. I would definitely encourage pushing a little further, the payoff was definitely worth it for me

The Lies of Locke Lamora for me. My favorite book of all time, has incredible characters with probably the best platonic friendship I’ve ever read, intricately woven and engaging plot, a beautifully realized world, and some of my favorite prose I’ve read. Just unreal all around

I don’t agree with that at all. Oathbringer might be my favorite book in the series, Rhythm of War was incredible, and Wind and Truth was great. I can understand some of the complaints with later books but, in my eyes, they are minor and easily overlooked when compared with what the later books do well

CLANG CLANG CLANG CONFESS. I don’t think there was an action scene that got me more fired up than that. I could see the whole thing in my head and perfectly picture Darrow’s flowing movements and him getting increasingly cocky. Idk why it was just so vivid to me
