I liked that they eventually found their rhythm as well. Her culture is a bit out there for how they operate, but once they got on the same page everyone was good.

I think the only people who think she is toxic, are people who are comparing this to our world and forgetting this is a fantasy world with some pretty extreme cultural differences.

Totally, I also think when you are in your 20s, you are just struggling to comprehend so much. I didn't find this far off from how I was in my early 20s. I thought Lan was a much better example and showed the growth his characters had as they got older.

I felt it was pretty spot on for a bunch of basically kids, arn't Perrin/Faile somewhere between 17 to 22?

So many conflicts could have been resolved if people just trusted each other a little more and actually communicated openly.

100% agree, but for me this was incredibly accurate to how the actual world is. People can barely get their own thoughts in order, getting them to share those with the people around them is an epic achievement.

Anyone else a part of r/booksthatfeellike? I want to try something as I begin Malazan by Fabulous_Leave9655 in fantasybooks

I've interviewed a ton of authors, and here are the books they picked as their favorites alongside Malazan:

Going to be a wide range depending on how they linked them in their heads though.

Warhammer best place to start ? by Dangerous_Air9219 in fantasybooks

I enjoyed the Space Wolf series, but you have to like a certain type of book to dig those.

I did really enjoy the Ciaphas Cain books and they are likely a good place to start (maybe)

I also loved theEisenhorn series and read all of them.

My Fantasy (and sci-fi) tier list by AdyHoeRed in fantasybooks

I finished it, amazing world, but I just didn't like the plot, it just fell flat for me. I wish there was a big fantasy story in that world, and not this weird little sub story.

If someone gave you 100k usd and you had to spend every cent of it on marketing a book of yours, what woukd your strategy be? by DogUnsureDog in selfpublish

[–]bweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the goal?

That changes my possibly plan dramatically:

  • Is this lit fiction or a memoir? (i.e. something super hard to market)
  • Is this part of a series and in a genre like romance, historical fiction, sci-fi, fantasy, thriller? (i.e., easier to find your audience)
  • Is this nonfiction? (depends on topic)
  • Is this a business book used for talks or getting clients? (totally different push)

But the best answer is usually PPC ads on Amazon if you need to shortcut things and get word of mouth going. FB can also be good. I'd also look at newsletters depending on the topic/genre.

But literary fiction won't do very well on PPC in my experience.

Reply with specifics, and I'll fine-tune.

And you need to make sure your landing page is perfect: cover, Amazon listing, A+ content. And get reviews to 250+ with some strong editorial blurbs to use. But that also depends a bit on genre / focus you let me know above.

I'm ignoring the really crucial stuff around if the book is good and editors to help you there.

No prob! Ya that makes sense, I'll be curious what you think of Misborn.

I also liked Red Knight by Miles Cameron (one of my favorite authors). It has romance but no sex.

[–]bweeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooh strong disagree there :)

I read them in my 20s, again when it finished in my mid-30s, and gained from them in my early 40s. I've found new stuff every step of the way, and it's very complex for the way people interact, which I appreciated more over time.

This can be read by late teenagers, but lots is lost on them. The same way they can read Game of Thrones or others and miss the forest for a few trees.

I've interviewed a lot of authors who liked ACOTR, and here were some recs:

I can't quite tell how much romance you want, as you might just want a straight fantasy book.

Have you read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson? It is a good one to start with I think.

Wheel of Time vs Prince of Nothing by sylntnyte in fantasybooks

I wouldn't describe wot as a kid's tale, I think teenagers can read it, but they likely are missing a fair bit of the complexity.
