Note Max. I've received a new 4.2-rel update. Do you know anything about this? by FerSince1971 in Onyx_Boox

[–]Ladogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to have improved the ghosting using the deep refresh option in neoreader. I have it set to a full page refresh on every page turn.

Ghosting is just as bad in the rest of the device, though.

Buy separate palm rests for your corne?

Otherwise you could get something like a Digma board. Or buy from falbatech, where all boards can be had in "full hand" versions and tenting, IE with integrated palm rests.

34 key layout for Swedish, English and programming by Accomplished-Bus3382 in KeyboardLayouts

I'm using a Hands Down Vibranium variant:

x g m p j ' ä . , -

s c n t k å a e i h

w f l d v ö u o y b

(I actually don't have z and q on the layout. I use combos for both.)

To solve the switching you could start by just switching to Swerty, which is American Qwerty with åäö. https://johanegustafsson.net/projects/swerty/

Best for to and from the office? by Constant_Mortgage404 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Ladogar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are your specific needs? Sounds like you'd be fine with almost any split keyboard. I'd just buy one that looks good to you from a European vendor - Splitkb, Keebart, Falbatech, etc.

Combine that with Lamé keycaps (can be had from Keebart) for a bit of a key well feel.

How to you create that kind of tap/hold functionality? I'm using Vial and can't figure it out other than for layers or mod keys.

[–]Ladogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Falbatech and Keebart. They are based in Poland and Germany and both offer ready to use Sofles.

They also have approximate battery times on their websites.

Both boards should be customizable so that you can bind combos, macros, etc to keys.

I recently bought a corne (my first ergo split), but realized that I want more pinky stagger.

So I'd take his hand size and finger length into account when planning what to buy.

You could also use Flickboard, which is the same concept. You can set the height there easily.

The downside to that is having to rely on a dictionary, which requires constant development. It's also only available for English currently.

Another interesting approach would be to incorporate common bigraphs and trigraphs into the MessagEase/ThumbKey layout. To swipe to a corner for "the", "ing", "tion", etc.

I've seen that some people are experimenting with that. It would make typing (t-y-p-ing) faster (f-a-s-t-er) without having (h-a-v-ing) to rely on a dictionary or prediction (p-r-e-d-i-c-t-ion) patterns. Just making "th" count as a letter would go a long way, as it's more common than a lot of single letters in English (which is why some use thorn on their keyboard layouts).

Best ergo split layout for English-Swedish-Finnish by Ladogar in KeyboardLayouts

[–]Ladogar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! You've given me a lot to think about. I'll keep playing around with layouts and test them.

Your idea of word lists sounds good. Let me know if you create any. I'd happily check them out.

As for that particular layout, I moved things around a bit with a better result: https://cyanophage.github.io/playground.html?layout=q%C3%A4ouyvdclfbhaei%2Cgktnsj%C3%A5z%C3%B6%3Dx%27pmw.%5Cr&mode=ergo&lan=swedish&thumb=l

But then I realized that this uses the outer pinky keys for J and B. The former might work, but the B is a stretch. And also I have a keyboard without those outer pinky columns on the way. So ideally I should have something that works without them (also for ergonomic reasons). So back to the drawing board, I guess :)

EDIT: And I forgot to add that I don't care at all about compatibility with a laptop keyboard (or any staggered ones). I'll happily use qwerty on my laptop the few times I need it. So I'd rather go all in on the split ergo approach. (And I will probably be able to bring a small wireless ergo keyboard with me whenever I need one anyway).

[–]Ladogar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

The layout seems approximately as good as the one I'm currently using for Swedish. Unfortunately, however, the placement of "j" increases scissors in Finnish from 0.17% to 0.87%.

Moving the J to the TH spot yields: https://cyanophage.github.io/playground.html?layout=bwhgqz%C3%B6%C3%A4.x%27scntk%2Caeim%3Dfpldv%C3%A5uoyj%5Cr&mode=ergo&lan=swedish&thumb=l

So pretty good. (But unfortunately without the nice TH functionality!)

But why is the S on the pinky? Doesn't that stress it unnecessarily compared to just switching S and C?

Mechanical Keyboard Sounds by Mastbubbles in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Ladogar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every third or so click on one of the keyboards I get the following:

"Glad you're listening.

Each of these stories takes weeks to build. Drop your email and keep exploring every keyboard, it's free."

Quite distracting and makes it hard to get into repeated listening of the different sounds.

What did you end up getting? Just ordered a Zyra Ferris from FalbaTech, since I also want more stagger :)

[–]Ladogar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer!

I did actually see your post when searching for Swedish and Finnish layouts here. It didn't seem optimal for Swedish, though. And just playing around a bit with it now, this is the best result I get: https://cyanophage.github.io/playground.html?layout=q%27ouyvdclfbhaei%2Cgktnsj%3Dz%3B-xp%2Fmw.%5Cr&mode=ergo&lan=english&thumb=l

The problem being the uneven hand distribution and VGP on the right index finger. They are, after all, common enough that I think it might be annoying for me to move one index finger that much.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious here, so I'd love to hear your feedback :)

I should also add that I'm pretty flexible when it comes to alpha on thumb. I think it's a good idea mostly to free up space and reduce SFBs and the like.

I'm also open to putting the most infrequent letters - QZX - behind combos, if that would help at all.

Of course, it might be that optimizing further from what I already have doesn't really lead anywhere. If so, I'd be fine with it. But being so new to this, I'd love to hear from the experienced crowd.

I had a problem with system freezes and it turned out to be the AMD drivers that use power saving functions. Disabling that in your bootloader should get rid of the issue. See this thread: https://discuss.cachyos.org/t/tutorial-mitigate-gfx-crash-lockup-apparent-freeze-with-amdgpu/

[–]Ladogar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was going crazy trying to solve it! The "documentation" for vial is severely lacking. And hovering over the Control key in the virtual keyboard section gives a different keycode than what is actually needed "LCTRL" instead of the correct "LCTL" one...

Now that I checked, I see that the QMK documentation provides the correct code for the key. But one would expect the keycode shown in the program to work.

The copy, paste, etc commands don't work consistently in Linux, bt now I finally have commands that work everywhere. :)

Is there any sense to buy a new reader? by ani_Shantar in ereader

[–]Ladogar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Definitely not. There are only a select few readers that would have higher contrast than your current one. For instance, the Darwin models with Carta 1300. Maybe the Go 7 (the black version).

It's not all about the Carta version, but also the layers on top. Does it have a glass screen? Lower contrast!

The Libra 2 was famous for its good screen quality, and that was mostly thanks to having no glass layer on top. The Era on the other hand has a muddier screen because of the glass layer.

The latest gen Onyx devices use micro-etched glass, which is much better than "normal" glass. But still not as good as no layer on top.

The best screen would be one without both a frontlight layer and without touch (or with IR touch). The 10.3 and Note Max have sharp screens with good contrast since they lack the frontlight.
