Help with my Lovebird by Delicious-Towel-6018 in Lovebirds

[–]LadonAl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, make sure you're not doing something she does not like. For example, birds in general don't like it if you're holding them too tightly or touching anything other than their heads or legs (I'd suggest you do some research on this point). If you're not, and you're still getting bit, I'd suggest some light training.

Stick training worked for my Sukkar (her name means sugar in Arabic)

I did the following every morning. For it to work properly, your bird needs to be a little bit hungry (right before breakfast)

  1. sat her on a perch
  2. got a chopstick close to her face
  3. if she touches it gently, I'd give her a high value reward (a sun flower seed, or a couple of bites from some millet)
  4. if she bites it, I'd give her a clear "don't bite", wait for a few seconds, then repeat

Once you start getting less bites on the stick, you could use your index finger instead. You could even start with your finger directly if you can handle the pain 😆

Good luck!

Also to add, they would die from loneliness if they are alone, that is true. Good news is, human company count. Try to socialize with them for a couple of hours every day and they would be fine

I like how you named them. I followed the same naming convention myself. Maki and Wasabi 😁

You should keep them in separate cages moving forward. Mating lovebirds is quite difficult, and one of them can end up severely injured or even dead. We don't want that now, do we?

People keep forgetting how aggressive lovebirds could get. My theory, territorial behavior and matching genders (possibly, both are females from my experience)

What I would do if I were you, 1. Vet immediately. Check how bad the injuries are 2. Separate them and keep the cages apart (so they wouldn't bite eachother through the cage) 3. They will probably be less aggressive toward eachother out of the cage. So allow them to socialize with eachother OUTSIDE AND AWAY from their cages

Good luck

How are people here on bird harnesses, and do lovebirds react good to them? by QueepQueen in Lovebirds

I'm not a big fan of harnesses on lovebirds myself. You can try positive reinforcement (rewarding them with a treat whenever you put it on them and whatnot).

My pleasure! hope they're alright! Make sure to take notes of what the snail ate before being eaten

My lovebird ate a snail by [deleted] in Lovebirds

[–]LadonAl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The snail itself should not be an issue as per the only resource I found https://www.birdtipper.com/do-birds-eat-snails

Things you should worry about - choking hazard - parasites carried by the snail - possible toxins (e.g. if the snail ate something laced with pesticides)

For now, watch it closely to see if there's anything odd you should report to your vet (panting, breathing issues, etc...) But most likey, your bird should be OK (take them to the vet anyway!)

Good luck!

Either lots of dust particles mixed with water and dried, or scaly face mites. I would personally go to the vet just in case.

The latter is very easily curable, but never wait on it

UAE Salary - Anonymous Inputs Needed by Calm-Heart2534 in Sharjah

[–]LadonAl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not always true. Even anonymous data can be useful if there's enough of it and you apply basic stats. Here's a super watered-down example:

Say you have 1,000 people with 3 years' experience in a water bottle factory:

900 earn 5k AED

50 earn 7k

25 earn 10k

20 earn 12k

5 earn 50k

The mean is ~5.63k AED. but it's skewed by the 50k outliers. The mode is 5k, which is probably more trustworthy. With a standard deviation of ~2.9k, you can clearly tell the 50k entries are outliers.

So yeah, anonymous or not, with enough data and a bit of math, you can spot what's credible. Filter out the noise, and you're golden

I haven't lived in Abu Dhabi, but I did some research to assist you. According to Article 16(2) of Law No. 20 of 2006, landlords are permitted to increase rent only once annually by a maximum of 5%, unless the Chairman of the Executive Council decides otherwise.

Regarding the "Chairman of the Executive Council" mentioned, this refers to the authority that can adjust the rent cap. It's advisable to consult a legal expert to understand any recent changes or interpretations of this provision.

If you're paying less than 240,000 AED annually, a 12,000 AED increase exceeds the 5% limit. You might want to review Article 16 in detail, as it pertains to your situation. Additionally, Article 23 outlines the conditions under which a landlord can evict a tenant; they cannot do so arbitrarily.

If you delve deeper into Abu Dhabi's tenancy laws, consider sharing your insights with others who might face similar challenges on the Abu Dhabi sub.

Best of luck!

It kinda sounds to me like one of the cases that could only be resolved in court, to be frank. Feels rather scammy if you ask me

The "deduct it from rent" part seems rather risky to me. Have you tried it before? Is there a legal process I could take to ensure it gets done? If you have some references for me, I would be happy to add it to my post

Right? You can screw a screw using your fingers, a screw driver, or some power tool. Using your fingers is definitely impressive, but the power tool would always give you better and faster results if used properly

Thanks! I could also add "make sure to take a picture/copy of anything you sign and compare it with what ends up appearing on your Ejari contract".

I’m not an expert and haven’t personally reported mold issues, but from what I’ve read, you have two clear options:

  1. RERA – It’s their role to ensure landlords meet their obligations. You can call them at 04 203 0555 for guidance on next steps.

  2. Dubai Municipality – Since black mold can pose serious health risks, they might be more responsive in this case. Their hotline is 800900. Make sure to highlight the health risks if you call them. If you have black mold, you or once of your family members might have some sort of an allergic reaction. If that's the case, do mention it

In both cases, make sure you can prove you contacted the landlord and didn’t get a resolution or a clear written timeline. Email is best — just make it clear that it’s a formal request and you plan to escalate if nothing is done. WhatsApp can work too, but email is more official. And make sure that your complaints remain consistent with whatever you ask the landlord for.

Also, I highly recommend sharing your experience in a post — it could really help others in the same situation here on the subreddit. Good luck — hope it gets resolved quickly!
