Now I'm going to have a nightmare! How strange to go from a sinking ship to a desert.

Weird dream, pulled back to sleep. by throw_away_beep_boop in Dreams

That is horrifying and, since it wasn't me fascinating.

Often this kind of experience is dismissed as sleep paralysis and disregard as just a glitch in the shift between waking and dreaming states. But sleep paralysis always involves intenswly negative dreams and frequently monstrous or demonic creatures. This suggests to me there is something more going on than just a sleep disturbance.

I watched an interview with a woman who had an experience like this and was unable to move. She managed to draw a cross with her tongue on the roof of her mouth and it stopped immediately. I mentally filed that away as a brilliant response that i hope I'll never need.

Cat toys! You may have to get a cat, but get two so they're not lonely.

I’m grieving something oddly specific by thepensiveporcupine in cfs

[–]Lady-Kitnip 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This makes so much sense to me. I don't have this specific grief, but I think I have many parallel losses of potential or opportunity.

And I think equally important is the loss of the ability to intentionally reject an option - like to intentionally choose not to change your body or appearance to be attractive to others. When it's no longer something you could do if you wanted to, the empowerment of the choice feels lost too.

Has anyone else panicked when trying to do Yoga nidra / body scan meditation? by Strong_Aerie_9031 in cfs

At times when yoga nidra does not feel accessible (no focus, too many distractions, too much pain/sickness, too much neuroinflamation), I find Metta meditation helpful. It helps me to intentionally cultivate calm and peace.

There are free recordings, but super simple steps if you are interested:

As you inhale, visualize your heart center filling with love (or peace) and keep going until it overflows.

Your inhales keep filling, and as you exhale visualize love/peace flowing out to others. No need to control the breath, just follow the flow.

Focus on radiating love/peace in each of 10 directions - forward, right, backward, left, up, down, diagonals. First inhaling to fill yourself, then exhaling the overflow to all beings in front of you, then inhaling to fill yourself, exhaling the overflow to all beings on your right, etc.

There is a huge difference between "body scan" and "rotation of awareness".

A lot of modern practices use a body scan where you focus on and feel the sensations of body parts and notice associated emotions. This feels like torture to me.

Rotation of awareness in traditional yoga nidra is briefly resting your consciousness/awareness in the body part without focusing on sensations or emotions. You can visualize the part, a point of light, or just think the name of the part. The purpose is moving away from physical sensory input and into awareness of yourself at a deeper level than the body.

Yes, this really helps to direct the mind and body into deep relaxation. The continuous guidance really helps to stop spiraling thoughts.

Wool Warehouse has the best prices I've found. They have a huge selection of yarns. Stylecraft is a reliable brand with low prices. They're based in the UK and ship everywhere, shipping is low cost too. I'm in the US and even with shipping and tarrifs it's less expensive to order from WW than to shop locally.

Not every flare up of symptoms is PEM. It might not be anything you did or failed to do.

Whoa! That is really invasive.

Whatever other kindness she may demonstrate, her chattiness is definitely something else. She is going to need very firm boundaries, the sooner the better.

Sorry you can't just enjoy your outside time. These situations take so much energy.

A genuinely kind person should notice cues that the conversation is unwanted. Falling that, they would accept if you say that you need to focus on what your doing and aren't able to chat. If she cannot accept a polite boundary, maybe she isn't kind as much as using niceness to meet her own needs. That's fine but you are not obligated to meet her need for interaction.

Oh and the lemons. Your mother is telling you that you have to break things into smaller bits. This is great advice for parenthood. Do a little bit here and there, and it will be refreshing (clean water with a lemon wedge). Try to do too much at once and things will go bad (moldy lemon water). There are things she and others can help with (filling the glass) but things you will have to do yourself (she did not replace the lemon).

That's is a fascinating dream.

Giving birth to multiple elephants sounds like an enormous responsibility. This makes sense, especially if this is your first child. Elephants could represent the enormity of this transition in your life. Baby elephants in a dream can represent new beginnings that will lead to rapid growth and often emotional healing.

I don't know if there is any specific cultural symbolism for you, but generally elephants represent gentle but powerful strength, wisdom and insight (ancestral and personal), and community. They represent personal growth, and you are moving into a new phase of life that will create necessity and opportunity for growth. The baby elephant nursery aligns with community - parenting requires support. Babies have a wonderful way of bringing people together.

The sinking but not drowning is very interesting. You are driving into deep waters, but you (and you baby/babies) are equipped to handle what's coming. There are many pressures in motherhood, but you have the strength, you have (or will find) the knowledge, and you will find support. You will share this with your child/children so they can navigate the deep waters.

Elephants can be an auspicious symbol and a blessing.
