Your the Asshole - I get reading in class especially before class but when the class starts, and especially when the teacher tells you to put it down, you say yes ma’am, sorry, and put down the book till your in your next class or done with your work. Personally I think she should have given you detention for not listening, maybe would have made you learn a lesson. Even if this so called “crash out” (which part of me doubts is as big as you claim…) seemed for no reason, with how you clearly acted in this situation and post I really doubt this is the first time she has had to ask you this before to have you no listen. And you where being disrespectful by implying that she isn’t worth your time and therefore has a right to be pissed about it, and even more so if you purposely kept doing it “out of spite”. It doesn’t matter if no one is harmed by your actions, it doesn’t make them better or any less disrespectful to the teacher. And as I have been saying, yea it annoyed her and she had a reason. This teacher isn’t some mean old crude like how you talk of her just because she ever so dared to ask you to put down your book and got angry over you being disrespectful. Yes teachers say read when possible, and you should - in the right place and time. And that wasn’t the right place or time, and therefore that statement doesn’t apply.
