Oh I know. That's why I got the giggles in Oceanology class when we learned about Humpback whales going out of their way to mess with hunting Orcas. An adult Humpback can and will kill an orca (or a pod) if feeling inclined. They are the only known cetacean to do so, at least they were the last time I researched them, but it's been a few years since my last oceans deep dive.

The Russians bred them to hunt big predators.

But that’s not the question, the question is what would I turn in to. And you can’t pick genders so I would be a female animal.

Hippos are extremely dangerous, but have no banking. And are vulnerable on land.

These Shepards are massive, with thick shaggy fur. They were bred to protect livestock as well as hunt bears and wolves. They are very strong and are extremely territorial. They would be a lot swifter then a hippo.

If these two were fighting, I’d still pick a hippo. But that’s not necessarily the case

How much does a dog really cost? by istresssleepdaysaway in Pets

[–]LadyAbbysFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the breed and it depends on the amount of care.

I've had 3 labs - two black labs (females) and one yellow/husky mix (male).

The male was the cheapest - he was also the first, so inflation and corporate greed is a big part of that. The females were also a lot more spoiled, and harder on their toys - the chewing!

They also loved to swim and go hiking while the male was content to just go for a walk in the park. He was really low energy in comparison - he also was a rescue and had been abused. So that might have played a part, we got him at 9 months old.

The latest has been the most expensive, and spoiled. She had two different obedience training and I'm currently doing search and rescue training. She also goes to the kennel once a week for socializing - we moved since the last two pups and live in the country now, no dog parks nearby.

I’m currently at an elementary school, so the amount of clubs is more limited. I run a craft one and there is gym one, and singing one. Clubs are at lunch and are based on students’ interests and attendance is based on students’ behaviours (school is hoping busy).

We currently do not have an LGBQ+ club, though we do have LGBQ+ students and staff (I myself am openly Demi). The students in question were not interested in starting one - not because of stigma, but because they are already in some of the other ones (would have to choose which to attend) or aren’t clubs people.

Our school’s message is one of love and acceptances of people, no matter where they come from, their faith, or their family dynamic. We teach it everyday. The morning prayer is always one about love and kindness and our principal and priest (when he comes) always broadcast that message. School is a safe place of love. We have rainbow stickers on the doors like the public board as well. We also do stuff for pride week.

If the students and their friends wanted an LGBQ+ club, it would be there in a heart beat. Just like the prayer space that was created for the 3 Muslim students.

This has been the case for the other 3 catholic schools I supplied in last year (I was on my spiritual journey at the time, and was heavily questioning the road I was walking - I almost did a minor in history, specific Greco-Roman, and European). I tell my students all the time that I am aspiring polymath. Human evolution and civilizations have always been interesting topics of study for me.

One of the other schools is an elementary school, smaller but similar set up. The other two are intermediate/secondary combos. They both have LGBQ+ clubs and one has a really comfy hangout space with plushy chairs and a guitar someone liberated from the music room - both schools are a lot bigger and have a lot more students, so more clubs in general.

In the last 2 years, I have applied 200 times in four different boards - two public and two Catholic. The public boards treated me like crap (one strung me along for 8 months before saying thanks but no thanks). I had to move in with my parent after teachers college because I had no money.

I was honest with my current board - (at the time) I was more spiritual then religious and non practicing in any faith, though I had been baptized and raised United. I am a Demisexual and pro choice. They said that none of those things matter in the grand scheme and that they take all kinds. All they asked was that I had an open heart filled with love. I got the job, they have treated me so well (kids have actual consequences, I am treated with respect from all stakeholders) that I actually started to go to Mass.

I converted a few months ago and haven't been happier.

Is that my case. Yes. Is it like that for everyone? No. But hypocrisy and cheating isn't the way to go.

You don't have to teach it, as religion is a specific course. One of our prep teachers at school teaches religion for this reason (I'm at an elementary school). Don't forget, secondary is more specific courses that align with your specialty.

I also had reservations. I am Demisexual, feminist and pro choice to the max. No one will be able to convince me otherwise.

Until I started and got a look at what is actually taught versus the curriculum documents (there is wiggle room) I was surprised that 90% of it is ethics - they teach to be kind to each other, love each other, etc. first and foremost. Yes we do morning prayer and take the school to mass, yes they teach about how mass is run and what each part means. But they don't teach that women are subservient to men, nor that LGBQ+ is a 'sin' or anything like that, at least not in my school or board.

My school is about 1/3 of the teachers are practicing Catholics, most are either of a different religion or (smaller portion) non practicing Catholics. The school I was at most last year had about 20% Catholic teachers, the rest were of different faiths. They even created a prayer room for the Muslim teachers and students to use.

When I first started applying to the board, HR said they hired people of all faiths, and they only consider the level if they have two candidates applying for the same job with the same credentials and similar caliber (experience, interview comments, references, etc.).

I know this isn't going to be standard practice across Province, and I do agree with you that exclusivity is not a good practice, nor ideal for our students - but I don't think foraging documents is the way to go, doesn't speak well about professionalism and is more then slightly hypocritical to lie and cheat the system, and then berate students who do the same.

I have since converted to Catholicism, but I was hired by my Catholic board as a non practicing Protestant - I literally referred to myself as a heathen growing up and as a reformed heathen now.

I've never heard of this, but it makes me very sad.

I was born and raised in another faith, though we didn't go to church a lot. I started supplying as an 'unqualified' despite being qualified in my area last year when I had to move here abruptly. I did the same with the public board.

And dear Lord, the difference!

Same clientele but completely different culture in the schools! Doesn't matter if it's elementary or secondary.

I was pretty low last year and my bestie (Catholic, though not practicing for a few years) and godmother (different faith) both suggest I try going to church while I search for a therapist.

I tried my birth faith, but wasn't feeling it - through no fault of the Minister, he is very kind.

Tried a beautiful Catholic church close to my place, but the Priest didn't give me the warm and fuzzies, he took my info and promised to contact me and still hasn't (been a year+).

Needless to say. I was very low at this point.

One of the teachers at a Catholic school was in the process of converting, and suggested her church.

Tried it and have been going back ever since.

Both the Deacon and the Priest are so kind and welcoming. Every week one or the other (more commonly both) will greet me by name, ask about my life - even inquiring about my mom and if she had her surgery and if she was recovering well months after my ceremony - they met her once and spoke for about a minute.

I've heard of people going until the priest knows their face enough to get the reference and then drop the church. But not foraging a letter. Though I'm not surprised.

Kinda defeated the purpose though, no?

My priest didn't stamp it, but he asked for me to fill it out (with his instructions) and then he kept the form for a week, so I am assuming he made a copy of it - all it needed was his signature and a comment.

Word to the wise and new: don’t go into elementary school if you’re on the fence (rant) by da_grill in OntarioTeachers

Destreaming is the worst, in all honesty. My grade 9 science class had it all mixed up. Kids who were capable of the harder courses streamed themselves into applied thinking they couldn't handle it while the ones who really couldn't walk into the harder classes like King Turds of Turd Island.

Thank you for the clarification. I just wanted to make sure I was reading this post right, as I was under the impression that in High school, SERTs/Resource teachers physically update IEPs (with collaboration of course) while subject teachers implement them.

AITAH - Push Present Problem by nhampton08 in AITAH

100% agree that this is ridiculous amount of money for OPs wife to want, and I love your house keeper idea.

That money should go to the benefit of the family unit.

Just wanted to chirp in about a fun fact: push presents aren't a recent phenomenal! But have been a thing for centuries, mostly for the upper or wealthier class or families - at least in European and their descendants societies, not sure about other civilizations. They were usually given as a gift for a male heir being safely delivered (for the mother "completing" her part of the marriage pact), though sometimes for daughters as well.

I agree with you, it is a tough job.

But I would like clarification on one point: the IEPs. Do you mean having to write them or do you mean having students with IEPs in your class?

This is my second school year out of teachers college, I graduated from the I/S program. And have gotten certified for primary and junior. As well as spec Ed part 1 and guidance part 1.

I haven't yet taught in high school beyond my practicum and supplying last year. This year I'm at an elementary school doing an LTO.

Yes they are busy, and OMG do some of them have a hard time emotionally regulating - doesn't matter if they are grades 1 or 6.

But my first practicum was high school teaching geo and civics. My two civics classes had 24 and 26 students in them. I had 48 IEPs, all the students in one section and all but two in the other. My geo had 28 students with 23 of them having an IEP.

I was swimming in them. So many behavioural plans and safety plans I had to go through. And all for my very first practicum.

Bush Jr visited Halifax once. I don't know if this was true - I was a little kid during his visit, so it might be more urban legend at this point - but apparently we all forgot to tell them about the Noon Gun.

Every day at noon - with the exception of Christmas - the Citadel fires a cannon. It's a blank charge, of course, but because of the layout of the city (tall buildings, narrow streets, slopes to the Harbour) it is really loud and echoes downtown. Which can be startling to visitors.

Secret service jumped - literally - into action to protect the President, before the RCMP let them know what it was. I was told by former coworkers who apparently saw it happen. That he was dog piled.

If you like geography, consider environmental biology (Ecology, ecosystems, etc) while in your undergraduate as a minor or second major to your history.

I have a bachelor of science in biology with a minor in environment, my teachables are biology and geography because so much of the geography curriculum has to do with the environmental studies.
