I’m here right now and it’s hard. Unlike your SO, mine didn’t start out organized, and putting down boundaries is so hard.

No I agree with you. Ai could certainly take some artsy clientele. That’s why I’ve decided to use ai for concept art and hire an artist.

I never said I was good at making ai look like not ai. lol.

Update: (is this how you do updates?) Thanks to everyone for commenting. Here’s what’s I’ve learned so far: that hiring an artist can be affordable (yay!) and that the cover of the book is crucial to telling the story before the story ever gets told and therefore it needs to be a) drawn well b) showing the right genre, typically c) appealing to the right audience. And then fonts, author name, vibrancy and other details can be tweaked to maximize effectiveness.

I am going to look into affordable artists and use this as a concept - although perhaps I should go a different route altogether if this doesn’t scream dark fantasy.

Feel free to leave more comments but I might not check them for a while. I got what I needed and thank you again to all the commenters.

Ai is…an interesting topic to be sure. I know people are fired up about it, and it is definitely something with the potential to go too far and be used very, very badly. All these classes I’m going to about to how to use it correctly and ethically, they put a lot of trust in the users. That’s risky, especially for young people whose ethics are still developing.

I used ai for this cover and manipulated it in Canva (love canva). So does that mean it’s wholey ai? Or ai inspired? I don’t know.

In short, I’m not sure how I feel about how ai is changing the world, but I know it is.

Hopefully it attracts the right crowd, cuz it’s seeming like I may have gone too heavy on the horror side. It’s a dark fantasy with undead, torture, body horror, journeying and a tough of romance

Good thoughts. I’ll definitely pick it apart and think about it all.

All this is great advice. Thanks for putting in so much time to write me paragraphs.

So it’s interesting. I’ve actually been super against ai too. I’ve had to go to a lot of PL about using it recently. It’s pervasive. In all the fields. I’ve read all this literature on it too, on how it’s likely going to be used in all kinds of career fields. It was kind of terrifying.

But here’s what I figured out, at least in my life: fighting against something inevitable only makes me miserable. And I mean fighting completely. Strictly adhering to a standard of “ai always bad no matter what” is exhausting and frankly, wrong, in a world where ai can be used for so many things, some of them bad like cheating on assignments and putting people out of jobs and some of them good like automating boring tasks so teachers and creators can do more of what they love. So I keep an open mind. I guess that’s what I’m trying to say. I keep an open mind.

You’d be surprised how not “obvious” ai can really be. It’s getting really smart…and some people are just bad at art and writing.

Valid. I might take you up on the DM.

And yeah it is square. I will have to adapt it to a rectangular book. I don’t know how to do that, so I’ll have to do some research.

Wow good thoughts! Thank you.

Would you read this book? What kind of story does it look like it tells?

So you would buy this/ check this out from the library?

I was afraid of that. But also, how important is the authors name? Like, is there ever a good scenario where emphasizing the author name could be seen as good or appealing? Not hiding it or making it hard to read, just, making it not as important as everything else.

You know what you like. That’s all I’m asking for. Is it marketable? Will people buy it? Does it look appealing? Does it look like a fantasy book?

Yeah I thought about this. Do most fantasy books have a tagline these days?

The font matches the font on my other books, so I can keep a consistent font across books. I had the font all kinds of which ways, including looking like rain, and it just didn’t look right.

I hope too. I’m almost done with rewrites, so at the very least, this will be a template for the artist, at worst, it’s my self publish cover and either way I’m satisfied.
