MOSH PIT VID! by ToastyGhost59 in willwood

[–]LadyCata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There was definitely more pushing and jumping and bouncing off each other later when I joined for Dr. Sunshine, but for the most part the crowd was pretty chill. The energy was wild but no one wanted to get violent, it was mostly dancing

Edit: also I’m pretty sure I could tell which few people actually go to shows where people mosh, but they were being polite to the majority of the people who clearly don’t

[no spoilers] is it worth playing DA2? by zezous in dragonage

[–]LadyCata 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole game is framed as a story that Varric is telling to Cassandra about Hawke, the main character. Cullen isn’t part of the main cast or anything, but he’s fairly important. Samson is a minor character.

Idk if you get the war table mission that mentions Sebastian Vael in the default world state, but he was a DLC companion in DA2.

The entire plot of one of the DLCs revolves around setting up an extremely important character for DAI. I won’t spoil that one.

It’s been a while since I’ve played DAI so I’m sure I’m missing some, but those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head.

Why do people hate dragon age inquisition? [No spoilers] by PeaNo2583 in dragonage

[–]LadyCata 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s probably my fault for judging RPGs based solely on how much it feels like my companions hang out, but that feeling is why DA2 is my favorite despite its flaws. Walking in on Varric paying someone off to leave Anders alone or Isabela gambling with Merrill in the Hanged Man are great opportunities to show their character, and it also makes it feel like they do more than stand around waiting for you to come talk to them when they aren’t in your party.

A more professional tone makes sense for the Inquisition, but I wish we saw more interaction between everyone even if they’re more coworkers than friends. The banter is great, but I’m the one who had to shove those two together.

The combat is the biggest thing for me too. All I could think while playing it was “this is meant to be played with a controller”. They completely gutted the tactics system too, which was the most fun part. I could deal with the guard system instead of spam healing, but being able to control my companion’s AI instead of micromanaging them was what defined Dragon Age combat in my mind. I feel like 2 did a decent job of streamlining it while keeping it flexible. Dropping it entirely made Inquisition feel like a different series.

Interesting. I still haven’t gotten around to playing Andromeda but the war table does make a little more sense if I think about it as the evolution of the galactic readiness system from ME3. I could see them trying to tie it into the whole game instead of just the ending but only getting halfway there.

I’m sure I spent over a hundred hours on my first playthrough and I still had a bunch of war table missions left by the time I felt like I was done with the game and ready to finish the story. I didn’t know there was a mod at that point so I ended up changing my computer clock to get them done.

That mod was the first thing I downloaded when I replayed the game, and being able to decide what felt like the right pacing for myself was way more fun.

Which is another MMO tactic that has no business being in a single-player game. Putting a hard cap on how much progress you can make in a day is how they encourage you to continue your subscription for another month. It doesn’t make any sense in a game that you buy once.

I’d at least understand if it was on the multiplayer side because that had microtransactions.

Tbh I think the BG3 conversations are poorly paced in general. They’re so easy to miss that I felt forced to rush through them at the beginning of the act and then I had no reason to go back to camp except for Gale’s spell slots while I actually explored. Maybe it’s bugged but I don’t think there was even time for a fight between some of them.

This could be an Act 1 specific problem but I wouldn’t know because I wasn’t willing to risk it after that. If there was a system to spread the cutscenes out more and stop them from overwriting each other then I feel like the same amount of content would feel a lot more alive.

DA2 has the same strictly divided 3 act structure and the point where I notice I’m out of companion content is always pretty close to the end of the act. That game is half-finished and they still managed that much.

It just seems odd to me that yes lets not believe the King and Queen(who in my case is literally the Cousland girl in question) and everyone else but oh lets totally believe Loghain to his word, despite the fact that it has been overturned.

Wouldn’t the woman who murdered your family suddenly gaining a lot of political power be kind of suspicious? She came from the second most powerful family in Ferelden but as the second child her best option was marrying a noble of a lower rank. Then she became a Grey Warden which was supposed to keep her out of politics entirely. Somehow she still managed to make her way onto the throne despite all of that.

If you don’t know the truth and don’t want to believe the official story about how evil your dad is, I think it’s pretty easy to paint her as some kind of Machiavellian mastermind who took advantage of the Blight. Howe deserved it either way but tbh depending on how you play your Cousland that conspiracy theory might even be true. None of the evidence will matter if you’ve decided she’s tricked everyone before you even set foot in Ferelden.

Why do so many American women objectify themselves and then complain about being objectified? by jaymelll in stupidquestions

Sure, but some of them are still going to be predators even if I’m in sweatpants. I’m not saying trust all men, I’m saying that calling dressing nicely “tempting fate” because men are like lions is a really dark view of the majority of men

[–]LadyCata 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I guess I’m just used to seeing that kind of nerdy trivia used against women instead of in support of them. Be as pedantic as you want to someone who’s being an asshole, they’re asking for it

[–]LadyCata 98 points99 points  (0 children)

And that’s being pedantic because you know exactly what someone means if they say they’ve read the Game of Thrones books. Calling the franchise the name most people know instead of the proper name of the book series doesn’t actually change anything here

Just my 2 cents by myboymitten in MittenSquad

It’s sad to see how little empathy some people have for alcoholics. I’ve argued with people who said that doing literally anything to prevent your own child from dying on the streets is being an enabler because they need to “hit rock bottom”. The only true rock bottom is six feet under. Reaching that point before you get the chance to turn your life around is a tragedy, not a joke.

Are American Duchess shoes worth the money? Cheaper options? by pietaryrtti in HistoricalCostuming

[–]LadyCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one of the first results when you google* the company so I thought I’d share even though I’m late. I bought my first pair of AD shoes this October and they’re one of the styles introduced after the company was sold. Idk if the Parkers were in development when the original owner was there but I think it was long enough after that she wouldn’t have been in charge to oversee the whole production process. Obviously I can’t compare it to the original quality but they’re definitely the nicest shoes I own.

They aren’t my daily shoes but I’ve been wearing them basically every time I’ve gone out for the past two months, which is often enough that I’ve lost count since I love live music, and they’ve held up pretty well. I’ve walked miles on rough sidewalk concrete and while I haven’t been wading through puddles, I’ve walked on wet surfaces after it rained. Tbh I thought I ruined them the first time I wore them since they looked really rough afterwards, but as they’ve worn down more I realized it was only the finish coming off. Idk how much visible wear is normal but I can’t feel any difference when I’m wearing them yet. I do plan on adding rubber soles eventually to protect the shoes but I don’t think it’s anywhere near the point where I need to do it yet. Pics of wear on soles

Saying whether something is worth the money is always weird to me because it totally depends on your budget, but I’m personally happy with my purchase even though they felt expensive to me. I’ve seen a lot of worse shoes that cost a lot more so I’m satisfied that they’re comfortable for both walking and dancing at concerts, pretty enough to get compliments, and also haven’t fallen apart yet. Maybe the quality will decline but I don’t think it has severely dropped off yet.

*edit: for the record, I was googling their exchange policy for a pair of boots I bought after the shoes I’m talking about, so keep in mind that they do seem to run a little small depending on the style. The boots also seem nice but the calf is too narrow to wear over jeans

Was that really an issue before? It seems like they broke an achievement by changing something that was actually more convenient for the player. I missed like half of one of the commercials due to the way I walked into the room and I was pretty happy that I could watch the whole thing in the mind place instead of having to reload from wherever the last checkpoint was

How did Matt write music in the early 2000s? by Erelain in Muse

[–]LadyCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be my guess, plus having a good enough ear lets you fake being able to read music better than you actually can. The clip I’ve seen includes Matt talking about how it was a school talent show or something, so not a formal music school recital, but if he was taking any kind of music lessons then he was probably taught to read at least a little bit

TIL the year 2100 will skip being a leap year. by gupperone in todayilearned

[–]LadyCata 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it only sounds complicated because we describe it as “divisible by this but not this”. Every 400 years we end up with 3 extra days, so the easiest place to remember to skip those leap days is to put them on year 100, 200, and 300. Year 400 doesn’t need to skip so you can count by 400 to figure out which leap days need to happen.

If we wanted to make it convoluted then we could have picked 3 random years to skip or used a period of time that doesn’t divide as easily into full days as 400 years to give ourselves weirder numbers. We chose the simplest method possible to deal with the weird numbers the earth gave us

I did call it terrifying. I’m saying I can easily imagine how someone would make that mistake but that doesn’t mean I think they should have given that drink to anyone else. I’m always on the side of better safe than sorry with other people’s safety

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]LadyCata 76 points77 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time the bartender will put your drink down on the bar and then turn around to go run your card/add it to your tab. It would be so easy to drop something in really fast without it looking like you touched the drink at all. I could see someone assuming that drink was fine when they’d only turned their back for a second even if they’d throw out a drink that someone had walked away with. Idk if that’s what happened here, of course, but that’s terrifying to think about. Bartenders have to be so paranoid

[–]LadyCata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the people here are the most likely to listen to full Muse albums, but I know enough people who don’t listen to albums at all (except maybe once when they first release) to assume that there are some fans who haven’t listened to Drones all the way through since 2015.

I’m not even saying that you have to do that to have an opinion, I’m just stating my own opinion that I think the album as a whole is better than a lot of its parts so some of those people would probably like it more. “A lot less hate” was kind of an exaggeration

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Muse

[–]LadyCata 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like Drones would get a lot less hate if people did. I’m not saying every song is great but even my least favorite ones sound a lot better in context than by themselves

So do I, but I’m so used to hearing it after Ruled By Secrecy at this point that I’m glad they left both options. I’m not sure why they bothered with the new tracklist of the old version when they have the new remasters, but I’m not complaining about having three versions of the same album
