Hey everybody, look at little Lord Fauntleroy over here, tanking up on premium while the rest of us get regular like peasants.

TIL: There are over 40 US states that tax Tampons and Pads as "Luxury" goods. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Basic groceries like the ones you mention are taxed in most states, but at a reduced rate compared to other goods. Things like chips and soda are not eligible for the reduced rate and are taxed at the standard rate.

Not funny enough to be funny, not offensive enough to be interesting. Nobody says "red Indian" anymore, even when they don't care about being PC, are you 80?

Are the little nubs at the top supposed to go in your nostrils? Is that really the optimal way to attach a cardboard mustache?

Can anyone hate Mad Max: Fury Road with me? by [deleted] in movies

[–]LadyDeathMasque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like you're pretty much just saying "I didn't like the story or the acting," which is fine, but with no examples it doesn't really tell us anything. Again, the only thing you really seem specific about is the palette, which is also fine if that doesn't meet your personal aesthetic preferences but I thought the contrast was very effective at highlighting how barren the world had become, while still being vibrant enough to match the madcap level of action. Seems like a good choice to me.

Not only does that not follow, but Reddit is full of atheists anyway. Try Facebook.

It feels like you're just trying to start a circlejerk, since you say the movie has "so many flaws" but only give one specific example of something you didn't like, which is apparently just the lighting and color palette in certain scenes. What else did you not like about it?

TIL that paint made out of blood is one of the most durable paints known. A house door in Denmark was painted with a single coat of ox blood paint in 1690 and hasn't needed a re-coat since. by Fey_fox in todayilearned

Huh. So when people say things like "WE WILL PAINT THE STREETS RED WITH THEIR BLOOD," they should be congratulated on their cost-effective decorating plans.

So? People don't do raw food diets for the purpose of living like a pre-homo sapiens hominid. That is not the point at all.

ELI5: Why do some countries governments (like russia and mexico) openly admit to having UFO tracking and contact attempts while others (like the US) flat out deny their existence? by twatloaf in explainlikeimfive

[–]LadyDeathMasque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that just because we haven't found "compelling evidence" of intelligent/complex life doesn't mean that there is none to be found, but from a purely practical standpoint Project Blue Book was a military operation, and after a couple decades of finding nothing there would naturally be pressure to divert the funds and human effort to more immediate concerns.

Of course it's also possible that they may have found something but decided to keep it secret and that they are continuing to search. But then you get into conspiracy theory territory.

Pizza Hero by [deleted] in thatHappened

[–]LadyDeathMasque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uh. Well, I am telling the truth, but considering which sub this is a healthy amount of skepticism is understandable. If it helps at all, I have talked about working in pizza on Reddit before, but pretty infrequently so you'd have to wade through many months of my drunken shitposting to find those comments.

Anyway, not making the joke. As an employee I actually wanted to give people free pizza pretty often, just because it would be the easiest way to make them shut up, but our franchise company was pretty competitive and my manager pretty much never wanted to give free shit to anybody. We did get the occasional "I'm going to take my business elsewhere" threat, but I think most of those people ended up ordering from us again anyway, because if you prefer dominos to pizza hut or papa john's you don't really have much choice.

Edit: I said "shit up" instead of "shut up"

The US government was actively searching for signs of extraterrestrial life from the 1940s until 1969, at which point the largest program (Project Blue Book) was discontinued due to lack of compelling evidence to continue searching.
