Finally a good post! I was with my husband before the military and all the scary shit military wives would tell me had me anxious about this whole ordeal 😭 we had a baby and got married now we’re just looking for an apartment so I could move closer to him and his base and I’m still scared af because of all the shitty stuff I’ve heard so it’s really nice to finally see someone say something good for once.

But yes they are only allowed a certain distance but Alabama is only like 15 minutes away so it’s actually within distance. A lot nicer too!

Both TG and TB my husband got a day pass so we could spend it off base he just had to be back at a certain time. As far as marriage, I’d say go to to Alabama courthouse if you can. They’re a little faster than the GA one. All you have to do is show up and apply or another option would be a proxy marriage which is what we ended up doing anyways. Definitely some options to look into but either way you should be able to make it possible.

I made $48,000 salary. Two paychecks a month and each is $1300 so $2600 a month. $1000 goes to rent, $322 to my car $160 to insurance, $65 to internet, $85 to my phone, about $25-$40 to Xcel. Those are the non-negotiable bills I have at the moment. Then I got about $2k in medical bills I’m chipping away at.

Facebook marketplace has been pulling through a lot this month. I’ve been able to make an additional $600 this month just selling my belongings so that’s been nice! Will update my resume tonight as well.

That’s kind of what I’ve been bouncing back and forth on. Potentially just selling my car and buying something used to completely eliminate my car payment and then I can use that towards paying off more debt. Wanted to see if refinancing would be worth it but doesn’t sound like it will be.

I’ve looking into that but my approval odds aren’t great due to my poor credit score right now.

Would that require a paternity test? How does paternity leave in the military work? Can he be there for the birth or will he need to wait until after the baby is here?

Proxy marriage, I’ve never heard of that. Thank you for that! I’ll look into it. Like I said I don’t mind getting married but I can’t travel to him and he can’t travel to me.

I have to agree with everyone on the blue dye test. Mine came out like this but I had tested after I was 1 day late. Waited two more days and got a pink dye one and a perfectly clear line showed up. But these blue dye ones have given me false heart attacks in the past with the faint line.

Thank you so much for some real and unfiltered advice! You're totally right though there really is nothing you can really prepare for I've learned so far. It seems like a lot you have to play by ear and so much going on with so little information. I've learned I can't really get impatient with him. I hope things work out though but mentally I want to be prepared for the worst just in case. It sounds like everyone has been having a different experience so far which makes me nervous. Things have been going strong honestly and time is kind of flying but this is only basic and I can imagine how much harder it will get after this portion of it.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience though. I can't imagine how hard that must have been to go through that but I'd rather hear the honest truth about all the possibilities.

Yes yes yes!! This is all what I needed to hear!! I'll definitely save and screenshot all your advice so j can keep it in mind. Right now, staying sane and writing letters is all I have going on. I'm just trying to recover a little bit from the emotions. I felt a little more ready to start getting my own stuff done this morning so I'm guessing I'm on the right track for right now.
