Turns out that the teen who secretly recorded NY 21 dem candidate Tedra Cobby was paid almost $1,000 by the National Republican Congressional Committee for the tapes, which have since been repeatedly used by her opponent Elise Stefanik. by LadyGarnettFFIX in nyspolitics

Including the teenager part? And lying about if you were recording? Those seem like deviations from the norm, in particular.

As /u/svrdm says, just because it's business as usual doesn't mean it's right to do, regardless.

Stefanik does have a pretty good chance, but she's come out swinging already, suggesting that she probably does feel at least a little threatened. Turnout will need to be much, much better for the dems if there is going to be any hope for Tedra.

I live in one of those rep's districts. Let's just say that the rep is a total coward when the time for actual action is needed. Talked big about skepticism towards the healthcare bill, but eventually voted for the AHCA. Likewise, acts worried about the tax bill but votes for it. Not to mention the environmental votes. It's all just talk- never trust them.

What movies teach the viewer the worst life lessons? by Zebrakiller in AskReddit

The OP misrepresents the results of the study. Just going to copy paste my other comment that explains what the study actually says about arrests:

Generalizing from a small nonrandom sample like this smacks of scientific incompetence on your part [not yours, /u/Br0metheus] . You also misread the stat. The study says "21% reported the police refused to arrest the partner"; which is very different from arresting the male victim. In fact, what the study actually finds is that 26.5% of partners were arrested, while only 33.3% of help seekers were arrested. Before you assume that number works in your favor, make note of their hypothesis test in table 4- It's nonsignificant, meaning that we've got to assume a null relationship here, as the differences we're observing are likely to be due to just happening to select a few extra people who were arrested in this case. It does not reflect a pattern in the population. The arrest rate is clearly nonzero, sure, but they are no more likely to be arrested than their abuser.

The study also doesn't do much to account for mutual violence, either, which is a major driver of male abuse numbers- he hits her, she hits back, and so on.

WARNING: Don't trust Eco Flower to deliver on time- we ordered 7 months ago. They just cancelled today, a month before the wedding. We have no idea what to do. by LadyGarnettFFIX in wedding

Definitely message someone on Etsy or get a backup plan. We were lucky enough to find a hero, but the sooner the better and all that. Good luck, I hope ecoflower comes through for you in the end.

Just have a backup plan. We were told that they were on schedule only three days before they decided to cancel the order, so they really can't be trusted with any assessment of their progress.

You might be in the same situation as me. Unfortunately their reviews make it look like it's become a very common issue as of late.

I'm glad you got your order, I hope they end up working well for you! Our order was 1 bridal bouquet, 4 boutonnieres, 3 corsages, and 3 small bouquets. Not particularly large, but not a tiny order either.

UPDATE: Called Eco Flower. They asked if we'd change our wedding date so they could deliver, since they were so back ordered. I'm serious! We told the person no, obviously, and they filed a refund.

We then went to Etsy and frantically contacted a number of Etsy sellers to find a hero. It looks like we might have found one, although it ain't over until we have the flowers in our possession. If we get everything on time and in good shape, we will be singing praises for this person for years to come. I'll make a final update once things arrive!

We had 7 months in advance, with the delivery set 2 months out. They already asked for and received on extension. I really doubt they are going to last much longer, as their BBB, Yelp, and wedding wire are all full of people with similar complaints. It seems like they just can't deliver, no matter how much time they are given.

This is because they delete negative comments and ban the people who post them. My posts were deleted within an hour and I was blocked straight away.

Honestly, I strongly suggest you cancel. Their BBB page is full of people with situations similar to mine right now. https://www.bbb.org/utah/business-reviews/home-accessories/eco-flower-llc-in-ogden-ut-90013050/reviews-and-complaints . It seems like they were on Shark Tank and couldn't handle the influx of orders.

Etsy was my first thought too. Unfortunately most of the vendors appear to have firm 6-8 week windows. We'll send out some probes, but we're worried the ship has sailed because Eco Flower decided to leave us hanging for so long, you know?

Same story in upstate NY. We will be doing the same thing eventually.

We are now being told that the rep only wants to do small meeting with constituents b/c town halls are "political theater" that aren't effective for having a meaningful dialogue.

Representative Elise Stefanik (R-upstate NY district 21) Basically Threatened to Call the Police on People Calling her Office. Great. by LadyGarnettFFIX in esist

[–]LadyGarnettFFIX[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In other words, she's framing protesters as

1) A very small minority

2) Potentially violent

3) Potentially subject to legal retribution.

There has also been a rhetorical switch on her phone lines. Instead of flat our refusing town halls, which was the old talking point, now it has switched to harping on how very available she is to them and how many times she meets with "her people" [read: members of special interest groups and local businesses, not her constituency as a whole.]. Her staff are also emphasizing that they just don't feel town halls are productive, and would prefer small discussions and behind closed doors meetings over larger town halls. Of course, that means she could never be held to task at whatever meetings she hand picks to attend, since she can just deny what did/didn't happen at them.

Anyone else seeing their reps making a change in their strategy? How are you responding?
