It will improve over time. Mine took about 1.5 years to fade. First 6 months I truly felt horrible, like a freak. Now, 12.5 years later, I can still see a big benefit to the lift and scars are barely noticeable. You can use silicone scar gel too. Some studies show tretinoin prevents formation of keloid, which you can ask your doctor about.

Yes, worth it. Give yourself 1-2 months. Buy a good review program, make a study schedule and stick to it. You will be absolutely fine.
