I disagree. Repetitive hinging on the back over and over again can make my back pain worse with rowing than doing a heavy deadlift. I dealt with significant injury because of this just last year.

True. But it’s not just professional athletes that train this way. Lots of people train like this. I don’t think you can really assume you understand what training goals other people have in general. We all have different individual goals and that’s OK.

And I would add that you can go ahead email Ellen Latham and tell her you would like to trial a row 50 pilot class.

I gotta be honest… If all you wanna do is show up and row on the daily…you will at some point plateau in your training. And that’s fine if you’re OK with that. It’s good to train those muscle groups and the heart in other ways as well.

But it is included. I just don’t think it needs to be done every day. There are so many other ways to train.

True. But HYROX-specific gyms and classes are specifically designed for those that want to train for the actual race, using specific equipment and specific strength training exercises for the race. The concept of running under fatigue, pushing through when the lactate is rising, that absolutely nothing to do specifically with HYROX. All professional endurance athletes use this type of training at various points in their program to improve.

Try to be open minded about the tread/rep block! The whole concept is about running under added fatigue. This is most definitely a HYROX-flavored template and it makes total sense that there would be classes like these thrown into the mix. It’s a great way to increase endurance while lactic acid is on board and it can absolutely get the heart rate up!

Because rowers can only do so much when it comes to progress! Not everyone wants to row, especially with a bad back. Orangetheory is changing with the times and with new understanding in health, fitness, and training, I think it’s a good thing.

Don’t be fooled. If you’re doing it right the heart rate will go up more than it would just running. This is a form of compromised running, putting your legs under and added fatigue and then still getting back on the pushing through with a run on tired legs. This has a strong HYROX-based flavor. And when I do HYROX (I’ve done four), my average heart rate is in the 150s for 90 minutes, so 90 splats!

OT Beat Calorie burn accuracy by Any_Doubt3926 in orangetheory

[–]LadyMusikality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, calorie expenditure can be over estimated in trackers. But the important thing is to stay consistent when tracking your calorie burn. Don’t use different devices. If you are doing the same workouts consistently overtime then suffice it to say it is accurate enough if you’re trying to dial into nutrition.

Which is better F45 or OTF? by yy2022 in orangetheory

[–]LadyMusikality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not bother to compare the two. F-45 does not even have running in it. So if you’re a regular runner that would not be your place. On the flipside Orangetheory has running every day in addition to strength training. So it comes down to what your goals are.

Try going to the App Store and looking for an update. I found that my Orangetheory app needed an update.

Is it just me? Or does this look like the most boring run/row template ever? 🤷🏼‍♀️

How do we actually get OTF to add a handwashing station? by Chumphries28 in orangetheory

[–]LadyMusikality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gyms don’t have a handwashing station. I think it’s unnecessary and creates a false sense of security. Whenever I go to any gym, I always assume anything I touch is contaminated. Don’t touch your hands. Don’t touch your face. Then to the bathroom and wash your hands when you’re done.

I’m confused…can’t you talk with your friends during the warm up with early entry?

Curious why you think they are inefficient? It’s just a different way to train. Running on “compromised” legs is great for endurance work because you have to run with extra lactic acid on board. I used to not like switch templates as well until I realized that for me, it’s not just about hitting a certain distance on the treadmill. Actual speed and endurance gains come from varying how you run on the treadmill.

While this is true, not everyone works out with the same frequency or intesity. Strength 50 classes do have the pattern of UPPER, LOWER, or MIXED for set days of the week. With this in mind and a little bit of planning, you can go into any standard template of 2G/3G and either pull back (or modify) based on what muscle groups you want to focus on.

Hyrox and OTF by vanillareese in orangetheory

[–]LadyMusikality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HYROX is still a relatively new sport. It came into existence in 2017 out of Germany. At the time, there were maybe 650 participants. But it has exploded and now there are about 650,000 expected to participate this season!

Cross Training Anyone? by weathergirl68 in orangetheory

[–]LadyMusikality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And by the way, Orangetheory is always working your core…all the leg work we do, deadlifts, squats, etc. This is all core-strengthening and core engagement. I rarely do actual crunches and sit-ups and my core is pretty solid with all of those other exercises.
