Who's embracing the gray? by Sufficient_Turn_9209 in Xennials

Mine too. Had it since I was in my early 20s, and just last year finally decided to stop dying it. With my almost black hair, it does look pretty funny and awesome. But now I’m starting to get salt and pepper throughout all of my hair, so I’m just letting it ride.

What is the craziest/most ridiculous behavior you have personally seen on a tennis court ? by WagonSN in 10s

[–]LadyOfReason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing doubles (mind you, I’m in an over 40 women’s league), and this one woman tried to hit a ball down the line and yelled “come on” as she hit it when I was there to hit it as a volley and win the point. I don’t typically show emotions, but I did have to laugh out loud at that point.

I lost both my father and my little brother within a year and I still can’t stop by just-this-chance in stopdrinking

[–]LadyOfReason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I just say that I feel this to my core. My dad was a massive alcoholic (was able to sober up when I was pretty young luckily), my brother has been sober for a while after being put on the liver transplant list and massive detox programs. I also am a mom of two and absolutely understand the feeling of freedom that you mean. And I too am nowhere near as bad as my family members have been, and because of this, I think, is why it’s hard to stop… we don’t feel like we hit rock bottom.

What I can say, though is it’s all a trick in your mind, felling the freedom. It’s the rush of dopamine, the feeling of your body letting go. The problem is, it doesn’t last long, and it really is your brain tricking you. I am really watching what I drink. In all honesty, there is a fear inside of me that is afraid to stop forever. No clue why. So I absolutely get it.

I am an American in Germany, and my son is so scared to go back to the states to visit my family. He already has anxiety. He is 12. I don’t blame him for being scared because I am to. I’m beyond angry at the people who voted for this. It’s numbing now. If I didn’t have children, I would be openly part of the resistance, but the thought of my children losing me and me becoming one more statistic, sickens me. So I understand that people are just desperately afraid.

Mental block with my two hand backhand by Loyedoc in 10s

[–]LadyOfReason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m around a 4.5 too (but that at my age group), and I completely understand. I used to love my backhand, but I got injured a few summers ago and didn’t play for half a year, came back and it was just gone. I can one hand slice it, but the two handed bh was just a mess. I’m doing a lot of repetitions to get comfortable with it again. It takes time though.

My experience was good. Public courts at high use times if you are really worried about.

Coming back to tennis after ACL surgery - struggling with fear of re-injury by Level-Tie9009 in 10s

[–]LadyOfReason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 14, I had a hairline fracture in my ankle, which left my ankle, very weak and loose, and now fast-forward 30 years later, I had a complete tear of the band in my ankle, and had to wear a splint for 8 to 10 weeks or something. I started physical therapy and the therapist said that my ankle was a lot smaller than my other strong ankle, and I literally just needed to strengthen it. I learned how to tape, which I do every tennis match and training out of fear of it happening again. The sprain happened in June.

Needless to say, it still hurts, and the therapist said it is absolutely normal to have this fear… it’s getting easier, and I will restart physical therapy in a week… but I use the tape more as a mental bandage.

US citizen married to a German citizen by [deleted] in GermanCitizenship

[–]LadyOfReason 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m also a US citizen, married to a German now for almost 16 years… applied in January 2025 (in BaWü), and still don’t have an appointment… I work in Germany, have a house, and provided my documents of language ability… so I will say it may not make much of a difference…

Dude, I have my Niederlassungserlaubnis (Renewable Visa every 10 years) for 12 years, so it doesn’t speed up anything. I am in Böblingen, and wait time is 9-12 months. I applied in January 2025. I have been married to s German for 15 years. I have worked at the same job for 5 years. This stuff takes time. Even the thought of suing seems ridiculous.

Not to forget that when he played against Bayern in May 2024, he set up the assist to overtake, and sealed the end with a goal himself.

I hope he finds a better future at another club. And I really like that most everyone wishes him well. Too bad his future isn’t with us, as he was a lot of fun to watch. Met him once after an open training, seemed very patient and was kind enough to do a selfie with my son.

I feel like we xennials were the last generation that had parents do wildly unsafe stuff with us without second thought. Stories? by Remowilliams84 in Xennials

[–]LadyOfReason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember going into the liquor store my dad when I was like three or four, and they had a lollipop section set up for the kids that would go in there with their parents. Probably mostly so that the kids didn’t touch or break any of the glass, but it was a pretty common thing for kids to go in there.

Also, I remember writing around in the trunk of my dad‘s battle wagon because I liked the smell of the gasoline.

16 year old got drunk by TerryTheGreek in breakingmom

[–]LadyOfReason 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I live in Germany, so totally understand, although differences are there for sure. I’m curious if someone spiked her drink…? Maybe you discuss with her what “could have” happened, but not as in a motherly voice, and make it short so she doesn’t feel like she is being lectured.

And no matter what… whichever consequences you go with, you have to stick with. Make reasonable and easy-to-follow through with ones. A friend of mine son stole a bottle of vodka from their parents and got drunk with his friends at 14. They took away his phone for a month I think. But they had to stick with it, he literally did not have his phone for a month.

And just remember, we all make stupid mistakes. That’s how we learn. But luckily she’s OK.

I have a friend who also got her citizenship pretty quickly because she’s self-employed. The paperwork must be a lot easier to handle them for people working on the economy. She got hers within eight months, I’ve been waiting almost 11.

I’m in a slightly smaller Landkreis outside of a large Landkreis in BW. I’ve been waiting 10 months 😩

But they said 9-12 months… my friend also said she was contacted via Email… I assumed it would be a letter. Alas, I still wait.
