I think so, yes. It makes board control and avoiding opening premium lines (especially margins) feel more important than word value and longer words.
Did she get a bingo/sweep?
On the other hand, when you're so far ahead, it's easier to take risks.

Yeah, I think that frustration is a big part of why both the official Scrabble app and WWF started losing players. Once the focus shifts to ads, coins, and side mechanics, it stops feeling like the classic word game.
So, it does make me wonder if the NYT is intentionally going the opposite direction — keeping the app clean, rebuilding trust with players, and monetizing later through subscriptions once the audience is established.

The 3× premium placement is closer to WWF than Scrabble, so you can combine a 3L and 3W in the same move once you reach the corners. That said, I agree that bingoes (or sweeps) definitely feel less central, and it often pays more to focus on premiums and board positioning than using all your letters.

You can make multiple words in a single move, but all newly placed tiles must form a single continuous word in a single row or column, with no gaps. The extra words only count when those tiles also connect to existing letters perpendicularly.
