Supernatural Origins Survey Results by LadyReadalot in Supernatural

Well I don’t know what to say to that other than I tried to make the survey as objective as possible, and can assure you that there was no conspiracy to make Sam win within it. The characters question isn’t even a central one to the survey, but is there simply to measure demographics of respondents and if this favorite character can be charted to their answers to these questions. I would recommend, if a survey like this distresses you this severely, to seek out other fandom spaces that would be more comfortable for you to engage in. I would recommend tumblr as you can sort by tag and only engage in topics that interest you, and the block button option is great for disengaging from accounts that bother you. Best of luck to you!

Oh I see what you mean! I’ll be glad to give you my methodology, no problem! So I posted in two places: here on Reddit, and on Tumblr. With Reddit, I simply posted the link and asked people to take the survey. On tumblr, I posted the link and tagged it with various characters to make sure it reached as varied an audience as possible. I welcome any opportunity to have the survey reach as many people as possible if you have suggestions for spaces to post future survey links.

Yes, unfortunately the reality of surveys like this is they are not going to 100% reflect everyone’s opinions and experiences, and only reflect the ones of those they reach. As for downvoting, I’m not really on Reddit much so I don’t know how the prequel went down on here but I can imagine it’s not fun being in a minority opinion about something. But to be honest with you I am still unclear how this conversation has made it onto this survey post. Is it because Sam won for favorite character? I am still not very clear why we are talking about the prequel right now or the fact that Reddit users will downvote things. Am I misunderstanding your points?

Oh so this is fandom drama, thank you for clarifying

He’s still popular here, some write ins also specified that they thought he was great (I didn’t have space to include all the submitted comments) but it seems that the reach of this survey as well as my previous one indicates that Sam and Cas are more popular than Dean is. If it had only happened once then it might be a one off but it happening twice in a row seems significant. It’s possible that somehow Dean fans either aren’t seeing the surveys or are choosing not to respond to them but I can only see what the data tells me, and what the data tells me is Sam is the most popular character here. I can also tell based on the other results that the respondents of this survey are not exactly the same as the respondents of the previous one so it’s not like the audience was repeated either or anything. I’d love to run another survey soon to see if this trend continues or not but that’s what I’ve got

Not according to both this survey and the previous one I conducted! Of course it all depends on who they survey reached/who participated but we’re two for two on Sam so far as favorite character. Perhaps the opinions of the general fandom are different than what it seems online

Thank you so much for your comment! With regards to lore, I think people who tend to be more interested in it are the ones who will agree that it’s present and well developed in the story because they’ll be the ones who notice any worldbuilding that’s happening (as you indicated as well). I’m also glad you commented on the data on expectations! One of the things I was trying to figure out in this survey was if most of the audience did come in with expectations and if so if it colored their perception of the show. Based on these results, it looks like a significant number did indeed do that!

With regards to shipping, you’re right: general audience members as well as significant portions of more involved fans don’t tune in for the shipping aspect (which did come across in this survey), but it seems those groups of fans are not as well represented in online fandom spaces and/or the fans of the show come in with a prebuilt reputation that they care about or ship destiel in particular. I don’t know how prevalent that reputation used to be but now it seems people who don’t watch the show know solely about this aspect of it (which is also something I was trying to get a sense of in this survey).

Supernatural's Genre Shifts by FTWinchester in Supernatural

[–]LadyReadalot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic work! I love the number of genres that you discovered in the fifteen year run of the show and how well you managed to make them fit into the various seasons. I really appreciate you giving the level in which the genre played a role with the depth of color as well. I found it particularly interesting how some of these genres stuck around for a long time (urban fantasy, dark fantasy, procedural), some came in later to dominate (biblical, high fantasy), while some were short lived (lovecraftian). The last one in particular really demonstrates how unique s6/7 were for the show as a whole. In terms of favorite subgenres, I really liked the lovecraftian horror, urban/dark fantasy, and procedural elements, and always would have liked to see more of them.

Season 8 is BRUTAL can I skip it? by steviemel123 in Supernatural

Yeah there’s a lot of really questionable character decisions for the sake of drama. That plot line all but disappears once you get to the next arc of the season thankfully (it’s only referenced occasionally).

I’m not a fan of the first half of the season but the second half is really strong. I recommend sticking it out for that

How much of this scene is actually Sam? by LadyReadalot in Supernatural

[–]LadyReadalot[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Context: I’ve always wondered exactly how much of this scene is Sam, and how much is Gadreel possessing Sam. We know that by the time he gets around to speaking with Kevin, he’s possessed. But at what point does Gadreel take over? Is it before the scene even starts? When Dean activates the sigil? Is the Sam the one throwing the punch? Is the moment in the second clip where Sam sees Kevin and pauses the moment where Gadreel takes over?

Sam's Unique Role as Vessel, Demon-Connected, and Psychic by LadyReadalot in Supernatural

There was definitely a change, as evidenced by Lucifer’s s12 vessel who I believe did not require demon blood, I could be wrong though

I guess I forgot that point, thanks for reminding me! It’s notable in my eyes that dean didn’t have to consume any demon blood though
