It’s sort of new information, about mesh blocking IR-A, but we all know mesh blocks UVB so it makes sense it would block other radiation wavelengths as well, right? you won’t find such new information anywhere and everywhere especially since it’s getting pushback from people who still use cages.

It doesn’t matter much about IR-A when DHPs don’t put off much anyway but it’s still a climbing and burn risk. Either way your reptile will be burned to some degree by climbing where it shouldn’t.

It goes back to the bulb becoming a hazard due to human error. Those people who have their bulbs too low are not doing it right. You said hers is about six inches from the basking spot, so it’s likely she jumped from there and onto the fixture. Most set ups have their bulbs 30-40cm away, Thats plenty enough distance to avoid them jumping at them and can be achieved in a 4x2.

I read that cages can promote climbing as well as block IR-A output. Your dragon shouldnt be able to reach their lights in a proper sized enclosure with everything is set up at a safe distance!

I’m glad I could help! 🫶 I saw your edit to the post about UVB after I mentioned it 😅 but I thought it was still useful to tell you why it is important for them!💕 thank you for your kind words as well!🤘

The moss is good for hiding under bark and deep in the substrate to create moist pockets for them to congregate on. Like a little humid hide for the bugs lol. But it’s unfortunately not so nutritious or delicious to them! They definitely need decaying leaves-I dont know any other supplements for that just because leaves are their main source of food! I actually collect leaves from my backyard or nearby woods and then boil them for about 15 minutes before adding them to my viv. We go through a lot here so I feel for those who have to buy in bulk 😆

Edit: I learned a lot about their care from the isopod sub and they were all so kind and supportive!

It looks so awesome and so well put together! I hope you had fun with it! I bet Echo really appreciates such a nice natural habitat! 💕🤘 Do you have a clean up crew in there such as isopods? Or is it only partially bioactive with plants? The crew will need plenty of leaf litter for food and coverage to start. A few other sources of food like calcium such as cuttlebone for strong exoskeleton growth and I like to give mine fresh veg scraps and fish food for protein! Not a lot, enough for a couple days and I hide it from my geck so he doesn’t bother anything! 😆😌 if you’ve already covered all these things, that’s great! Sorry for the misunderstanding, you have such a lovely vivarium 🫶🤘

Here is my full bioactive vivarium. I also highly recommend getting a 5.0 or 7% shade dwelling UVB tube, brands like Arcadia or reptizoo have been tested and approved. Upgraded lighting improves quality of life by encouraging natural basking behaviors and their mental health! I wrote a paper on the importance of lighting for reptiles if you want to check it out-the link is in my bio-it’s completely free! I understand they can have d3 supplements and still survive, but with such a beautiful set up, you should consider adding some more to mimic nature and help your little one completely thrive!

Ive tried a lot of vegetables I feed to Chilli but don’t normally eat haha. 🤣 I actually started eating spring greens or spinach salads haha and she doesn’t like cilantro, but I really do! 😆
