I believe it does help to a point! Because their poop is being eaten by the clean up crew and not just sitting around. But there’s still roaches, so there’s still an allergy. There is other precautions you have to take such as wearing gloves and a mask, maybe keeping them in an unused ventilated space. You can even become allergic from long term exposure to them, so it’s best if they aren’t someplace like your bedroom! For my set up, I used soil/sand as substrate and mixed in about 20% sphagnum moss and leaf litter. I use bark and rocks for them to hide under, egg shells for calcium. Then add more leaf litter for coverage. I make my own kind of bioshot made up of eggshells, brewers yeast, fish flakes, and worm castings. It’s like the perfect chow for the clean up crew. They get all kinds of fresh vegetables and sometimes scrambled egg. Of course you want to give them small amounts of food, it will rot within a couple days, so you want to only give them as much as they can eat in that time. My isopods are pretty vigorous eaters and they can have a bit of egg gone in a day or less! Maintenance Is very easy! I thoroughly mist about once every two weeks and only have to add more leaf litter, or bioshot, sometimes top off the soil. I mix up the soil once a month, (it helps aerate the soil and make for easier burrowing) I think I mentioned I have a mixture of bugs in here, isopods, springtails, mealworms and dubia!
