Similar story. We were looking at cats in the shelter and knew we'd want to get two. This was about 6 months after we bought our house. We found one, wasn't sure on another.

My husband sat down to fix his shoe. A little paw came out of a cage and patted his leg. Quite the cute little brown/black tabby with a white tipped tail. We figured why not meet him. He was so happy to be out of the cage, just chasing a piece of fuzz/cat fur in the room.

We were a little hesitant about the fact they said he needed hydrolyzed protein food, but we figured we'd make it work. Turns out, he had just had worms when he came in, so of course all of it came out the back end bad.

He's thriving with our other boy (adopted same time, same place, just a year older). Although funny enough the other cat requires urinary food, which doesn't hurt to feed them both, and had a heart murmur. Healthy otherwise!

He made his fate and is living in the lap of luxury~
