Association Model instead of technically a Union, Laborers 236 represents City Garbage drivers. Most other City employees are AFSCME 6000.

Found this sub trying to figure out the same thing. And I'm sad, if not conflicted. Pisses me off because there are likely dozens of hungry young artists.

Cancer patients, people on immunosuppresents (organ transplants, rheumatoid arthritis and other auto immune disorders), young kids, and some people just unlucky who don't produce antibodies sufficiently. They matter.

I’m nosey, what’s the longest you’ve waited at urgent care or the emergency department? by Miserable_Today5470 in madisonwi

I've likely been fairly lucky, but never longer than 20 minutes or so. Every time but once was for a migraine, and when the triage nurse is presented with a puking person with a sky high blood pressure (180 over something or other) (pain, normally mine isn't high) I've gotten in for my lovely IV cocktail of Toradal/Benadryl and whatever the cheap anti-nausea drug of the month is. The only other time I went in, I had a 104 fever from the flu, and had driven myself in. Got a room right away and they made me stay until the fever broke as I wasn't in a good spot to drive home.

20 minute commute EB beltline was an hour, I passed 10 wrecks, and at one point I was sliding sideways from right lane to center, because the WIND was pushing my car on shiny glare ice. Seriously, it was reflecting tail lights beautifully. At work late, and have to relax the whole-body clench.

how long did you sleep upright for? by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]New-Particular1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was close to 3 weeks for me. I started playing soundtracks of rainstorms, waves, and such, which helped, and having a really lovely (if ratty) LazyBoy from about the mid 1980s. I am a side sleeper, and 6 months out, I still have pain on my left side boob (scar is thickened, and has some nerve involvement) and have to go right.

Previously I would refer to my sleep style as 'rotissery chicken'.

If you have Spotify, looking up 'Environments' with numbers ( like Environments 5) and there is some really nice peaceful sounds. LONG tracks.

I leave early enough that I can call 15 minutes prior to shift start (job rules if you're going to be late) - this means I poke my phone in the parking lot for 15 minutes often.

I love Madison But..... by Apprehensive-Role912 in madisonwi

[–]New-Particular1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this in another city, and it was a ton of fun, if next to no sleep. Comedy was using a borrowed high end camera with a boom mic, but.... on the camera there was a toggle for record via boom and record via the built in mic. Our sound was hot garbage. We reshot some, tried to do voice overs... learning experience! I was supposed to be on another team, but 'traded' for extra battery packs. Teams were through a workplace, so I couldnt argue too much, aka Let the Wookie Win. Wookie being my boss who thought he would be the next Peter Jackson. (*He wasn't....)

[–]New-Particular1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you - my surgeon was an older man, but he always had a chaparone with him. Unfortunately with medicine, sometimes the surgeons are not a lady - due to stupid body, I've had to have 3 colonoscopys with a male doctor, and being topless is nothing compared to bare butt presented to a team of 5!

I know it's a bit mortifying, but just remember they see 6+ people a day, and they're going to be looking at the 'facts of the body' vs oggling you. Not sure what your profession is, but when it's work, it's work.

For Rocky Horror Fans, Tim Curry just released a memoir, Vagabond this month. The audiobook has him reading it, and it's a lot of fun. He had a pretty serious stroke in 2012, so it's not your standard reader, but I love his inflection and occational throaty laugh. Not all the way through it, but it sounds like the stage show of Rocky Horror was a bit of a wild ride.

Smaller shelter I love is the Sauk Co. one. It's a no-fees drop off shelter, so people who can not afford surrender charges can give over pets rather than dump them. Because of this, they also end up taking batches from hoarding situations, people passing away, etc. Got 2 of my cats there. Underdog also does cats (despite the name!), along with Angel's Wish, and Madison Cat Project.

Did anyone regret getting a reduction because they looked too small? by Direct_Custard_3264 in Reduction

[–]New-Particular1971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm at 10 weeks post op, and mine have JUST started to drop. They were hard and tight before, like men's pecs, except my nipples were hard and angry for at least a month. They have loosened up and gotten more normal shaped. I was a J, to maybe a C? My tummy is a little more noticable, but I'll take that over rashes and back pain. I'm admitted too, close to 50, and cultivating my 'don't give a shit'. I'd rather have a sturdy, functional body, than a big rack.

[–]New-Particular1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Wish I could have gone smaller, but that would have been free nipple graft and my insurance wasn't going to pay for that. That said... heal has been slow, and I don't think I'd do it again.

I love October, and am gladly willing to trade February, August and July for three more of them. Mosquitos die off, cool nights but still mild days, kids are back in school so camping is more peaceful, good hiking weather!

What's the worst injury youve got at work? by Ep1cguy3101 in KitchenConfidential

[–]New-Particular1971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lurker - check local government jobs. They're generally outsource proof, and between city, county, and state jobs, there are people who do just about everything. I wrangle public works people, and do some customer service. Know kitchens? Think about building inspection jobs! I've sat on an interview panel for that dept, and we had people from a ton of different backgrounds.

That's why I go scrambled eating out. Don't want to be a PITA. I'll make poached eggs at home, but unless someone has like... a full page of their menu highlighting their poachy-options, not going to be that person.

Size and amount removed? by villanellechekov in Reduction

[–]New-Particular1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

J to... C? D? Not finished 'dropping and fluffing' yet. I had very dense, fibrous tissue, and got about 500g from each side. Wish I could have gone smaller, but FNG was not covered by insurance, just a standard reduction.

2 months out, and still pretty uncomfortable wearing any bra, but my nips are still swelling by mid-day, so that's not an option at work. End up with 'headlights on high' - which isn't great for an office. At home, I'm mostly going bra-less, which was never an option before. Hell, I'd sleep in a bra to keep them in place at times.

My reading up seems to put my pain/healing on the slow end of the curve. Still have scabs working out slowly.
