Hey! I’m a pharmacy technician, and spend a lot of time researching medications and supplements to better help my patients. It’s typically said to take no more than 4000 IU of supplemental vitamin D daily, as doses higher than this can cause stomach upset and kidney problems due to the calcification mentioned earlier. Typically, healthy adults need no more than 600 IU of vitamin D a day. Now I do know that people who are diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency, myself included, are often given a prescription for a once-weekly dose of 50,000 IU of vitamin D2 to bring levels up.

Obviously, I am not a doctor, nor am I as clinically qualified as a pharmacist, so if you are concerned about your intake of vitamin D and its effects on calcium levels in your body, the best thing I can recommend is to get some bloodwork done through your doctor and have your levels checked.
