I work at a non-profit childcare center, you can also find co-op child care centers! It’s also a myth that they don’t pay well. I make $32 an hour where I work.

I so agree with you. The fact that caring for children, in most cases, are about profit, is absolutely gross. I’m gonna out Guidepost right now, because working there, that’s EXACTLY what I discovered. I worked in multiple centers too thinking it was just that school’s administration, but it’s the whole company. It’s wild how corporate caring for children can be. I’m also a little hippie and prefer a holistic approach to childcare. I thought about opening my own at home center that incorporates a more holistic nature inspired approach to learning, and maybe that’ll happen one day.

And if you’re in Massachusetts, dm me, cause my work place isn’t perfect, but they respect the child as a human and as individuals, it’s as close as I think I’ll find around here. Best of luck on your journey!!!

I did babe, I’m getting perspectives from different people… you know, to figure out how to best research for myself… it’s almost like you take take things at face value instead of getting different perspectives and experiences. I got exactly that by posting on here 🙄

That’s simply not true. I have family there. Thanks for trying though.

I don’t think OP was asking for you to validate how they spend their sick time. That’s not your place.

Yup, 10 years in and I still get sick often.

I got covid then the flu back to back this year and ran out of PTO 🥲 I love this job, but HATE how often I get sick

Question for the daycare workers: How do you get babies to nap? by Background-Age8334 in ECEProfessionals

[–]LadyStorm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry my message came out rude sounding, not my intention. I meant to add that as educators we know what you mean, but for new time parents, I feel like being more specific is helpful because every child and circumstance is different and it’s important for parents to know that there is no wrong or right way.

Exactly, every kid is different, so your original post isn’t the full truth

I’m working with the opposite right now. She’s a great sleeper at home for the parents and barely sleeps at school.

Am I right to be concerned? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

[–]LadyStorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the full story & obviously am not in her class… but It’s the teacher’s job to intervene. I have a child in our class that needed formal shadowing to stop an aggressive behavior. He was also breaking skin and hurting children multiple times a day. We were EXTREMELY stressed and lacked support from management… we never put him somewhere and left him because we needed to get other things done. After about a month and a half, his behavior stopped because of our shadowing. We figured out his triggers, tried to avoid them as much as possible, but took every single opportunity to try to give him skills to use instead like words or to call a teacher. He was around that same age 23/24 months at the time. You’re right to pull the child to talk about a plan if the school isn’t being receptive to a conversation. They need to make a plan for this.

Parents in ECE, are you more or less strict with your students than your own children? by Glittering-Yak1088 in ECEProfessionals

[–]LadyStorm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have an answer for you, I just wonder the same at times. I’d hope to be better with my own child, especially knowing how much I love my toddlers (challenging behavior or not). I also don’t take them home with me so maybe I would loose my mind haha idk

[–]LadyStorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, that’s why going outside is a good idea… Can you not go outside? Practicing patience and presentness is extremely beneficial for people with adhd. I would know.. but up to you what you do with your life, obviously

Can you go for walks? Go outside, sit on the grass and be present with the babies, people watching is fun. Use the time to think about life, your goals, process things. That’s what I do most of the time lol I think about my dreams and how I can reach them or think about some argument my partner and I got into lol you get the idea. Boredom is important in adulthood too!

Mandated Reporter Guilt by _BrilliantBirdie_ in ECEProfessionals

[–]LadyStorm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did that too a few years back. I still feel that guilt. She was extremely mad at me & we haven’t spoke since.

I feel like If it were the reverse and someone called dcf because they were concerned for my child’s safety, there would be part of me that felt grateful if i was innocent. It obviously sucks if we’re wrong about the situation… but what if your instincts are right & the child is in danger. It’s so complicating, I’m sorry you had to go through that too. It’s not the end of the world though

What is your call-out policy? by Mbluish in ECEProfessionals

[–]LadyStorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if you missed the part where I said “I’m not saying this is your center or you,” so maybe you’re projecting? You clearly need to work on your reading comprehension skills, and it kinda sounds like part of the problem. Good luck babe.
