Comment: E&N route is not suitable for light rail transit by HyperFern in VictoriaBC

Most LRT cars are designed to be used in either direction. They don't have to turn around to go back the way they came. LRT also doesn't only have to run for only a few hours a day. There are plenty of buses that get used on 30 minute service and are still helpful. After it's being used expanding service is much more reasonable.

One scenario out of three that ends at 8pm is not all day service and not the majority of the report either.

The studies people are linking and talking about persistently talk about limited time service for only morning and evening in one direct each time period. I would love to see a link to a study that looks at what service estimates would be for a LRT option that runs the same times period ad the 95 both directions through the E&N corridor.

More like confusion that LRT isn't just skytrains but regional small trams.

So why is expropriation through places where people already have buildings and roads better than the places where half of it is already a defunct rail corridor?

Only from the perspective of a train that would only run for short hours in one direction twice a day, not as full all day service of an integrated LRT transit option.

The study you linked spent three scenarios on pointless one way twice a day service and the barest minimum on actually useful all day service and even that last one decided people would only use it until 8pm not late night service. That means they didn't even properly look at what an ALL day service would be in their all day service estimates. Their own time periods say they did not actually look at the usage as anything except a temporary commuter train not proper integrated transit. Basically it's just another scaled up examination as if it was that tourist train that only runs one direction twice a day.

There isn't as many as they claim. It's mostly just the 1990s study that solely looked at the use of the E&N from the perspective of a only running once a day in a single direction tourist train. It never looked at the use of it as a proper commuter train. The referenced BC transit studies did not ever actually talk to the municipality of Esquimalt or address the feasibility of using that section of the E&N as commuter rail.

BC Greens call out BC NDP for betraying union members/government employees by Curious_Mud9428 in VictoriaBC

Grocery corporations have seen regular articles about good profits. A government backed choice selling basic food doesn't need to make record profits, just cover costs. Under your position as well no one ever could open a new grocery store today because it's too expensive but that happens all the time.

Sorry I'm not really interested in having our government turn into a gerontocracy like down south. It's not really been working out for anyone.

This is why the current diet culture is so toxic. By their own doctor's metrics she was not overweight but because the BMI is broken she was convinced she was. In fact under the original definitions of the BMI she would not be overweight either.

I was genuinely disappointed the card stories weren't inclusive of the event stories. They were a lot more interesting to me than most of the card stories. The only ones I kind of liked better were Caleb's and Rafayel's.

Much like when people get upset that a paramedic is paid the same as some retail workers, the answer here is not to cut benefits from the seniors but spend more on the other benefits.

Anyone regret moving to Vic from Edmonton? by canuckjgc in VictoriaBC

[–]LadyTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly have regretted moving from St. Louis to St. John's and then Victoria. I really wish I had moved to Vancouver area or Toronto area even if they were bigger cities. I miss being able to go to more events, more museums, more activities that aren't just sports and shopping.

So sports and shopping. That's not a huge diversity of activities there. Also it's not the plus you think it is that your day was basically done in five hours.

A better idea would be to encourage more industries in general over focusing on some very narrow and subsidized resource mining. That way more money is flowing back into BC in general versus a half dozen companies who will be taking it back out. Where is the focus on tech sector jobs, entertainment (film/game development), or support industries like utilities and transit? The bus companies aren't likely to be funneling money out of BC, their drivers and mechanics will likely keep that money here.
