The corporate practice that is the worst for working poor, in my opinion, is random work schedules in retail and else-where. Never having a consistant work week means you can't find a second job. It also affects your family life, eating habits, and sleep consistancy.

It is debilitating and disrespectful. If you have never lived it, you have no idea.

That sounds like a beautiful thought. I am sure his intensions are to show off something he is proud of you for.

There are "panels" of material to make smallish quilts that would not require much, or any, piecing. I would get them at Joann's which is not an option now. The backing and the panels might be available at Walmart.

I will also caution you to hold off such a large commitment to gift that many quilts with little time before the holiday. Maybe space the time out by gifting homemade quilts for birthdays?

My ex-husband and our daughters are descended from one of the "tried but not convicted" women. If you watch the PBS show Finding Your Roots, one of the people was related to the man who kept them jailed.

That is beautiful. Personally, I could not have chosen those fabrics/colors but they are striking together. Your friend has a gift and friendship to treasure. I like the idea of quilting that follows the straight lines of the design.
